.@BBCNews bulletin just referred to "violence today in Southport.." You sure about this? No such incidents being reported on (what's left of) our local news media.
Of course, lying, manipulative and cynical rabble rousers have played a part here, but so has decades of neglect and the slow disintegration of once proud, cohesive neighbourhoods. Take away rewarding employment, decimate social and physical fabric and is this really surprising?
A strategy for the long haul : the sustained and creative use of role models like these to offer young Liverpool males an alternative to the NorthFace nihilism we can all see every day in this city, not just last night. How to be "one of the lads" without being a complete mook.
