Today, we ask our members to reflect on how they can help end gender-based violence. We encourage members to work toward making engineering classrooms and the engineering profession more inclusive, for which we recommend you to read: ow.ly/1bW650Ul7jo
Listen, I want to be real careful with this comment because we need to actively fight toxic environments and practices that lead to burn out, but hard work is always required. If you want to achieve something big, hard work is part of the equation.
"Why is everything so expensive in Canada" Because we've gone out of our way to privatize all of our Crown Corporations. We get priced gouged because we keep trusting the private sector to uphold the common good over their profits.
This documentary came up as a recommendation on my youtube, definitely a worthwhile watch!
This is a pretty excellent short documentary. Mistakes have been made and new voices need to be listened to in order to fix the system.
“boys will be boys” should refer to stuff like this
today i saw a group of 15 teenage boys hanging out after school in the whole foods cafe and every single one of them was eating their own personal rotisserie chicken
Reminder that Inuit were who tipped NASA off to this and then NASA confirmed it
Earth's rotation has tilted 31.5 inches, and humans are 100% to blame Human groundwater pumping has tilted the Earth by 31.5 inches. To put this into perspective, this water redistribution equates to approximately 0.24 inches of sea-level rise. earth.com/news/our-every…
Determining the order of authorship is incredibly stressful, I mean I'm mostly first author because I do most of the work, but sometimes I think I should share more? #academia
I'm making posters for my survey results (results by program) and ahem, what do elec eng & comp eng do? What are things undergrads might find surprising about workplaces in these fields? #Engineering
The Toronto apartment we lived in before moving to Mississauga was ~$1200/month. Today the same unit is listed at $2700. Rent is out of reach for too many while compensation fails to keep up. Food bank dependency is climbing for many as a last step before homelessness. #onpoli
Every year since moving into a new Toronto condo, partners landlord has requested a 10% increase... We gave notice when we received the newest increase. 2021 $2 000 2022 $2 200 2023 $2 420 2024 $2 622 2025 $3000 (10% = $2928) Thanks @fordnation for ending rent control!
I often feel like people forget that many of us modify our transit plans to adapt to the system we have, not necessarily because it is the best iteration of the system. This is why things like surveys of users are important.
Why do I shop at Gloucester Centre instead of Place d'Orleans when I halfway between? Blair is an @OC_Transpo paid fare zone. Once I am in the zone, even if my transfer expires, I can board a bus home without paying again. Ghost buses suck. Transit policies mould cities.
I'm at a weird point of burnout as a 5th year grad student where I (hopefully irrationally) think a lot of people are mad at me. I'm just over here overanalyzing everything (but maybe I actually just have a mean personality now and it's not an irrational fear?) #gradschool
We have a reply all email chain taking place in my department as TA's rsvp confirming they can proctor finals... So far 13 rsvp's and 1 'everyone stop replying all'. 🤣 #academia #email
Did it. Gave a presentation on psychological safety at work. People really opened up and shared afterwards and I honestly feel like I've started (or continued) a really important conversation on access and inclusion. Thank you @JamieBGall for the tips
If you have influence over boys & young men, the single most powerful thing you could right now to meet the moment is teach them to handle rejection - whether it's rejection from a crush, not making the baseball team, not getting the internship they wanted, etc.
Today marks the anniversary of Kristallnacht, or the "Night of Broken Glass," which took place on November 9, 1938. In remembrance, we joined a group in our neighborhood to clean Stolpersteine — small brass plaques embedded in the pavement that honor the memory of victims of the…
