The problem in this election is not Black men voting for Trump. It’s white men voting for Trump. It’s always white men. If white men would stop voting for authoritarians, this election would not be close. Do something about the white men in your life.

“Political experts and organizers – who are also Black men under 50 – said the hysteria about their demographic defecting to the Republican party is overblown.” inquirer.com/politics/elect…

You can’t talk about poor education outcomes in WV — 78% of 4th graders weren’t proficient in reading in 2022 — w/o talking about poverty, 6K foster kids, thousands of homeless students and lack of mental health support. New data sheds light on the issue. westvirginiawatch.com/2024/06/11/wv-…

Polis also signed the last of four drug policy bills today. The four bills are somewhat wonky but spell significant changes for drug policy in the state as fatal overdoses climb again and as harm reduction advocates fight opposition in Pueblo and elsewhere.

The person who should be pissed at Fetterman is Conor Lamb. Lamb, not Fetterman, was the rising DNC centrist *star* in PA. But Fetterman lied and ran as a progressive, getting him lefty support from white folks who wouldn't vote for Kenyatta, and ate Lamb's lunch.

Colorado passed HB24-1164 to provide funding for free period products in schools in grades 6-12. It's simple. No young girl should miss class because they can't afford period products and need to stay home. Thanks to all who helped make this bill a reality for girls.…

I used to think (as only a young man can) school choice and vouchers could out-policy-design structural inequality in K12 schools. And I was naive to the far-right politics behind such schemes. I know better now, I write about in The Privateers. josh-cowen.com

I find all of this uncomfortable. I was a school choice zealot, an extreme advocate for individualism and personalized learning. I've changed. I now embrace what it means to reboot my worldview and values, even if I lose "friends" and support.

I don’t think I have ever misjudged any politician as badly as I misjudged Fetterman. I was even one of those people who defended Fetterman against a torrent of rightwing attacks after he had his stroke. And yet Fetterman is now using that stroke to justify going full rightwing.

Terrible. Vouchers are education’s predatory lending. Setting aside that 3/4 voucher users were already in private school—and those schools reject anyone they want—vouchers devastate learning for the kids who do switch. Worse than what COVID-19 and Katrina did to academics.

We’ve known for a while that vouchers bail out sub-prime private schools and create new revenue streams for churches. 🚨We need to start talking about how they help fund far right-wing political groups too🚨 nhpr.org/education/2024…

Big news out of Michigan: Gov Gretchen Whitmer is set to sign bills transitioning the state to 100% clean electricity by 2040. Crucially, the bills have strong labor standards. This is how to get working people behind the green transition. 1/ (free link) wapo.st/3sJ6x9C
