Why are PAs allowed to do night shifts in ED if there is no consultant onsite to supervise them ?

klizlees Reposted

Dear 🇬🇧, Your govt is increasingly replacing NHS doctors with PAs who have 1/4 of the training. It’s not safe, harms patients, and wastes £££. So @AnaesUnited is taking @gmcuk to court to make govt listen and protect you. Pls watch this 8min video and share. #SOSNHS #PAproject

52 grand for a new grad after a 2yr course, yet an FY1 doctor at the same Trust will start on £38,500, just diabolical.

So sad that a nurse takes their life each week in England / Wales & a doctor dies by suicide every 3-4 weeks? Never be alone, there’s always someone to talk to bma.org.uk/advice-and-sup… for all doctors & med students, not just @TheBMA members. It’s ok to share that you’re not ok.

Today we planted a memorial tree in the grounds of BMA House, to honour the memory of doctors and healthcare professionals who've died by suicide. The planting is part of the National Memorial Tree Campaign from @DoctorsDistress @amateuradam The BMA will continue to advocate…

The future we’re headed towards: a dilute NHS; devoid of expertise Here’s my experience of working a set of nights in my local hospital, in a deprived part of the UK, which relies largely on MAPs/Non-doctors at a perilous cost. (All accounts suitably anonymised) 🧵1/4

GOVT + NHSE + MED ED DIRECTORS HAVE DELIBERATELY MANUFACTURED BOTTLENECKS/SHORTAGES FOR ADVANCED SPECIALTY TRAINING FOR QUALIFIED DRs TO DO GP POST GRADUATE TRAINING!! THEY HAVE ALL LITERALLY WITHDRAWN GP SPECIALTY TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES DELIBERATELY!!! @wesstreeting - WHY??? 😤

These stats, just released, are a national scandal. Over 15,000 doctors applied to GP training this year. Yet @NHSEngland is letting only 4000 of them do so. Yes. That’s 11k potential new GPs lost to the NHS - when we’re crying out for GPs. Many replaced with PAs - madness.

Never forgive, never forget.

Still reeling from this horrific evidence from Prof John Edmunds at the Covid Inquiry yesterday. In refusing to lockdown in autumn 2020, Boris Johnson was responsible for up to 25,000 Covid deaths by ignoring the experts & evidence. It’s sickening 😔

klizlees Reposted

Actually, thinking about it, the entire nation should be ashamed for making the very same doctors and nurses who risked their lives to try and save their fellow citizens’ from Covid beg and strike without pay just to get their pay in line with inflation! It’s a f’ing joke!

If every Dr gave just £10 each to BMA & Anaesthetists Utd legal action, which inevitably shine a light on role of GMC, wouldn’t that smash required funding targets? Pivotal time for professions and associated professional institutions . Please fund and help shine that light.

HUGE thanks to all the members of @rcgp who forced their Royal College, kicking & screaming, to represent its members rather than continue to promote the politically-driven folly of replacing NHS doctors with cut-price doctor substitutes. Please take note, @wesstreeting

RCGP governing UK Council has today voted to oppose a role for Physician Associates working in general practice.   You can read more here. rcgp.org.uk/news/physician…

🚨It’s time for Health Secretary @wesstreeting to come clean & confirm if Department of Health & Social Care is funding @gmcuk’s costs in defending legal actions brought by @TheBMA & @AnaesUnited to protect patient safety in the physician associates scandal - what’s the answer?

klizlees Reposted

No national standards for supervision of Physician Associates, their scope of practice, or patient consent. No wonder it has been called the PA Scandal. In this short video, Helen Salisbury and Richard Marks explain why.

Our open letter to @HouseofCommons @UKHouseofLords #HealthSelectCommittee @LaylaMoran - that parliament was misled by the delay to the @RCPhysicians EGM - calls for a delay in the planned December start of MAP registration by @gmcuk @doctor_oxford @DaganLonsdale @TYoungstein

klizlees Reposted

The signatories, all Fellows of @RCPhysicians, believe that their College, the @gmcuk & @DHSCgovuk essentially colluded to mislead parliament in claiming that the College approved legislation going through Parliament this year to regulate physician associates (PAs). (2/n)

klizlees Reposted

PAs are now being used as doctor replacements on on-call rotas in hospitals, to see undifferentiated patients in general practice, & even to perform intra-abdominal operations on patients (who are not even aware, sometimes, of this fact - hello, informed consent, anyone?) (10/n)

klizlees Reposted

For many of us, the PA debacle boils down to this: Either a medical degree and post-grad medical training are necessary to be a safe doctor - or they are not. So which is it? Clearly @NHSEngland, @gmcuk, @NHSE_WTE & @DHSCgovuk believe they are not. (14/n)
