Unsurprisingly, there is a world of difference between recreational athletes & their elite counterparts. We've used the Joyner model for performance to highlight some of the key phenotypic adaptations between these individuals collated from the literature (4/4).

A lot of discussion re: this article and the widening opportunity gap/decreased opportunity for tenure track positions. But rather than asking if trainees are soft (they’re not) - faculty should be asking themselves how their mentorship has changed to reflect this new landscape

📢Last Day! Calling for letters to the Editor! Viewpoint: “Are we soft?” Importance of aligning career goals with work-life balance Submission Deadline: September 20, 2024 ➡️ ow.ly/KysA50Tr9v4

We also consider how much of our advice for "evidence based practice" in high performance sport - using sports nutrition as an example - is provided by studies of elite athletes

No indoor events should count to outdoor rankings, full stop (and don’t even get me started on mixed 10km road race and cross-country counting for 10,000m ranking)

60 indoor should not count for 100m outdoors ranking

This is a fantastic summary from @MountainRoche of the current thinking surrounding ketone supplementation post-exercise. We should have some data to contribute to this story soon!

Post-exercise ketone supplementation is a fascinating frontier of performance science. But there are still more questions than answers. I think a lot of that uncertainty connects back to athletes not being fully open about what they do, for fear of criticism. So in the “no…

New course record for women (2:21:41) at the Sydney Marathon on the weekend, despite having a greater elevation gain & loss than Boston. Results like this & Paris highlight that women’s marathoning is improving exponentially. Need to be sub 2:25 to be considered competitive now
