Ann Wilson is the Judy Garland of Rock. Genius. This was one of the most charismatic, compelling performances in music history and I will never forget it. #StairwayToHeaven

Since Ann Wilson is trending… Anyone who loves ANY kind of music, this is such an amazing performance. Also, note the background of the bowlers…

Splendid. And, really, what god worth his salt would NOT want a house overlooking his house?

#AncientSiteSunday The Temple of Poseidon, Cape Sounion, Greece 🇬🇷 I ticked this beautiful cliff-top temple off my bucket list earlier this year! 🤩 #Archaeology

I’ll bet he got that for excellence in pickleball. #SweetWreath

The skull of a young athlete, crowned with a golden laurel wreath and dating back to the 1st Century AD, was unearthed in Lato, which is now known as Agios Nikolaos in Crete, Greece. This remarkable artifact is currently showcased at the Archaeological Museum of Agios Nikolaos.…

St. Simon Stylites could NEVER. #Obscurata

This is the Meteora Monasteries, a revolutionary wonder of Greece, built 600 years ago. What makes it so special? Well, once upon a time, building 1,000 feet into the sky was completely normal... 🧵

Good luck in your Davis Cup swan song effort, Rafael Nadal. ALL of sport shall endure an irreplaceable loss when you depart the stage. #RafaelNadal #Legend

Spectacular. And after the games we can drift away from the crowd and sneak into the enclosure of the temple of Isis nearby. Who knows what might happen there …

I guess there really IS no other Troy for me to burn. #YouShouldaLeftALightOn #Sinead

In 1870, an archaeologist searching in modern-day Turkey actually found Troy's ruins. It was a real place. Its location matched the descriptions of Homer, and was found to be destroyed in a war around 1180 BC.

Men of a certain age shall begin POOPING in their pants and WHEN THEY DO, the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse will emerge from the Sea of Galilee and stop for burgers at FIVE GUYS because they long for their Fifth and the fries are not repellent. #NonSequitur

Did your high school class take a vote among “nominees” to determine your prom’s theme song? If so, which song won and did you like it? #DoTell

A good idea, but when the merde hits the fan and all these hordes return home and have to pay their already maxed-out credit card balances, the ongoing excavators at Pompeii will have PLENTY of room to work in peace. #GlobalEconomy

As of 15 November, the tickets of the Archaeological Park of Pompeii will be personalised and will have the names of visitors on them. There will also be a daily limit of 20 thousand admissions, subdivided into time slots during the summer. pompeiisites.org/en/comunicati/…

He’s not one the Melancholics. He’s clearly a STOIC. 🥁

Bronze portrait head from Delos. Dated to the early 1st century BC. The realistic face of this anonymous man and his melancholic expression starkly contrast with the idealistic representations of the Classical Period. National Archaeological Museum, Athens.

I have walked on top of this astonishing work and still marvel at the engineering required to create it (and others like it), the power needed to move it and float it down the Nile, and the heartbreak of those who witnessed a fatal flaw before completion.

The Unfinished Obelisk in Aswan stands as a colossal reminder of ancient Egypt’s ambition, with chisel marks that reveal the incredible skills of its creators. Imagine if it had been completed! 👇 Link in comments! 👇 #obelisk #Egypt #Egyptian #Aswan #Hatshepsut #masonry

AND sometimes you needed all your chompers in place to give a grave-robber a good, cracking bite on his greedy fingers. #Practical

4. Ancient Egyptian dental work from 2000 BC. In many instances these procedures were performed after death. Egyptians placed value on the appearance of the dead to ensure they were sent off correctly to the afterlife.

Rainy November day. Christmas decorations are up. Feels like a GODFATHER II kind of evening, just to mix up the mood (or possibly antagonize it). #MovieNight

I would have put my money on the leopards.

#MosaicMonday - 'The Magerius Mosaic', a detailed amphitheatre scene from Smirat (Tunisia), ca. 3rd Century AD. The herald's address to the crowd is recorded in the text, with the combatants named. #Roman #Art Image: Sousse Archaeological Museum. Link - soussemuseum.tn/les-mosaiques/

I favor the weatherbeaten, “distressed” look, myself. Besides, many important Egyptian temple reliefs were covered in shining gold or electrum. #Cartoony

This is how hieroglyphs and figures in ancient Egyptian temples looked before their colors faded...
