Population migration to red states from blue ones isn’t an act of God, it’s the direct result of failed housing policies in Democratic led states.

New >> California and New York are projected to lose up to 8 electoral votes in 2030. Texas and Florida are projected to gain 8. If Kamala Harris had to compete with that map, even winning Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin wouldn’t have saved her.

UPDATE: WE WON

These four candidates are who we need to make Santa Monica an inclusive, pro-housing city. Please like, share, and send to your Santa Monica friends!

many regulations good. some regulations not so good.

BREAKING: Marie Gluesenkamp Perez is one of very few Democrats who won in a heavily red district. Make sure every American sees this video showing off her successful playbook.

Every once in a while, NIMBYs say the quiet part out loud.

I’m grateful to live in a city that limits the number of new apartment buildings. They’re not the same type of quality people who live in actual single family homes. Crime stats back this up.

If Gavin Newsom really wants to do something to protect "California values," he should immediately push through radical housing reform that will make it much easier and cheaper to build in the state and keep people from leaving because they can't afford to live there anymore.

BREAKING: Gov. Gavin Newsom calls special legislative session to “protect California values, including fundamental civil rights, reproductive freedom, climate action, immigrant families.” The special session will begin Dec. 2 when new California lawmakers get sworn in.

Despite the most well funded NIMBY campaign in Santa Monica history, the YIMBY slate swept the City Council elections.

Ok, enough with National Politics. Drop your state and local YIMBY wins in the comments 👇

The median home price in California is 9x the median household income. A healthy ratio ranges between 3 and 5. (The ratio in Texas is 4.5.) It's cold confort to say "all are welcome here" and then uphold housing policies that exclude all but the wealthiest.

This was the day eight years ago that I started trying to learn and do more locally in LA. It was hugely good for me and I think everyone should do it however they can. It is not a "retreat." Wrote about it at the link in bio

Excited to make Santa Monica fun again.

“If we really are concerned about economic development in the Downtown, one of the things we need to do is find more ways to get people to come to the Promenade,” argued @jessezwick . santamonicanext.org/2024/10/make-s…

If you think people aren't New Yorkers because they weren't born in New York you've missed the whole point of the city and have no business representing it

CM @VickieforNYC hurled insults at @chabot_jackson because he wasn't born in NYC???

Another gentrification article about LA that not once describes why gentrification happens. The breweries and coffee shops are lagging indicators. They show up after people start moving in. The cause is a lack of housing, especially in high demand neighborhoods like West LA.

For the young and upwardly mobile hipsters of East LA, the Frogtown Flea Crawl was the hot new event of their perfectly Instagrammable dreams. For many residents of the historically working-class Latino community, it was their breaking point. My latest: latimes.com/california/sto…

🚨Alert to CA legislators🚨: Cities are undermining their housing elements by enacting new, post-adoption constraints. There's a practical fix. Require VRA-style "preclearance" of new constraints, at least if they apply to parcels on which housing element relies. 1/13

What about cities passing ADU size restrictions after adopting a complaint HE? A city in SoCal restricted ADU sizes to the minimal, making 25% of the ADUs built today in that city now illegal. What did HCD do? Nothing

Paging LA civil rights groups.

These numbers are insane... automated enforcement basically wipes away racial differences in police stops. Without enforcement, on roads where half the drivers are Black, they make up about 70% of police stops! Drops to 54% when automatic cameras are in use.

Or we could just let people build housing.

You want to end homelessness in Los Angeles? The city says it'll cost $22 billion to do it in a decade latimes.com/homeless-housi…

If you live in West Hollywood 👇 - show up Friday at 3pm and fight back against the NIMBYs - sign the petition - vote for John Erickson and Danny Hang, the only candidates who are committed to a safer Fountain Ave

Fountain Ave is too dangerous – there have been 93 crashes in the last 5 years, including one TODAY that sent three people to the hospital. It’s time to fix Fountain Ave. Join us to march for street safety this Friday at 3pm. More information here: mailchi.mp/streetsforall/…

This also explains how L.A. can *feel* like it's growing and changing rapidly even as the housing stock barely budges. All the new buildings are on the streets everybody drives down!

For new development in LA, large apartment bldgs are much more likely to be located near highways—& their pollution—than 1 to 4 unit buildings. The culprit? Zoning policies that concentrate allowances for multifamily housing to areas near highways. urban.org/urban-wire/hig…
