Some India stats in ICC tournaments: 🫵🏽 2nd straight undefeated run till the World Cup final (2023 CWC, 2024 World T20). 🫵🏽 3rd straight ICC tournament final (2023 WTC, 2023 CWC, 2024 WorldT20). 🫵🏽 Reached 4 out of last 5 ICC tournament finals (2021 WTC, 2023 WTC, 2023 CWC,…
Australia had a lead of 157 after their first innings at Adelaide. Travis Head scored 140. The difference, as always, against India. I wonder what the result of the WTC Final & ODI World Cup Final would have been, had it not been for Travis Head.
It’s strange how at one point, even though Ganguly was neck to neck with Sachin with respect to the ODI numbers in the respective years, and also ahead in certain ways; people remember Ganguly only for his Captaincy and not as much the fiery opening pair he formed with Sachin.
Between 1998 and 2003, no batter had scored more ODI runs than Ganguly's 7,357. He also scored 21 ODI centuries during this period, second only to Sachin's 24. In fact, 7 of those 21 centuries came in ICC events, no other Indian batter had more than 3.
13 games into the league, City are just 1 point ahead of Nottingham Forest, and behind Manchester United on goal difference, where United’s manager got sacked mid season. Insane!
I often think the same. Not just Tests, but all forms of Cricket. The infamous bilateral record tilted in favour of Pakistan would have reversed long back.
City 0-4 Tottenham. 5th consecutive loss for City this season. Their biggest loss under Pep. First loss at home in 2 years, in over 50 games. Moral of the story, as someone famously said: “Stay humble, eh!”
This T20I series win against South Africa is heartening. The biggest reminder of the 0-3 drubbing at home against NZ was not to take our victories for granted. I remember the times when winning in RSA was a dream. Also, they were the World T20 finalists who almost won. Proud!
Ipswich defeating Spurs is another big result today. Their first win this season. Big ups for Kieran McKenna. They’ve played very resilient football so far, and I look forward to some more big results for them this season.
After Matchday 11, the 3rd placed and 9th placed team are apart by just 1 point. More interestingly, title contenders Arsenal & Chelsea are ahead of United by just 4 points. The beauty of Premier League, clearly the best in the world, both w.r.t. quality & competition.
I’ve always liked Rizwan within the Pakistani lot, both as a cricketer and a character. Not sure how long would he be trusted with the captaincy in such a fragile system though.
Another facet of Rizwan's captaincy that deserves admiration is his killer instinct. In all three matches, he sensed the opportunity that 10 wickets could be taken well before 50 overs, so he didn’t use spinners much and kept pacers on. It might be a basic stuff for some readers…
Pakistan staying true to their unpredictable tag. Lost to a mediocre Bangladesh side at home in Tests, and now defeated Australia on Aussie soil, and that too convincingly. As Nasser Hussain once famously said, “Pakistan, one minute down, next minute up.”
On a different note, title-contenders Arsenal are behind Nottingham Forest after 10 matches into the season.
If we fail to take any points from today’s match versus Chelsea (a high possibility), then we would be just 1 point ahead of newly elevated team from Championship Leicester with more than 1/4th of the league over. Can’t think of another league that’s even closely as competitive.
