It was really incredible to watch biologists and engineers alike build up a fully functional fluorescence microscope from individual parts in a matter of minutes! We hosted 20 researchers from around Africa for an openScopes workshop @AMI_microscopy #openScopesAfrica
Day 3, the final day of the openScopes Africa in-person workshop. Attendees from across Africa are gaining more understanding of the capabilities and research applications of the openFrame-based microscopes. Project discussions are also underway. @UCT_news @UCTIDM @UCTHealthSci
Day 2 of the opeScopes Africa in-person workshop is now underway at @UCTIDM @UCT_news . Attendees from across the African continent are actively engaging with the openFrame-based microscopes and the research team behind their development.
Day 1 of openScopes Africa in-person workshop is currently underway at @UCT_news @UCTIDM Participants from across Africa have gathered in South Africa to delve into the intricacies of openScopes and its practical applications. #openScopesAfrica2024
Ta-da! Behold my paper describing a new mechanism for action of (almost) all antidepressants. It's membrane trafficking, and it can bring stuff into the brain. Now, can this help bring new fancy Alzheimer's drugs into the brain?.. <TBC, subject to £££> nature.com/articles/s4138…

You might have already heard by now about Mai Rahmoon’s talk about how ABIC, Imaging Africa & @HHMIJanelia had huge impacts in her career but we were also equally excited to have Sunil Kumar with us both talk about and show us about the OpenScopes initiative.
We’ve been saving the best pics for last and on behalf of the organising group of the ABIC Community Meeting ‘23 a huge thank you to all of you who attended both in person & virtually. And also our heartfelt gratitude to all those who contributed to the meeting’s success!
🔬Have you read this new #OpenAccess paper "openFrame: A modular, sustainable, open microscopy platform with single-shot, dual-axis optical autofocus module providing high precision and long range of operation" by J. Lightley et al? Free-to-view here > onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/jm…
If you're interested in seeing what we've been up to lately on the open microscopy front, do have a look at onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/jm… and the associated repo github.com/ImperialColleg…
Not really on here anymore, but felt this needed sharing - want a cheap (£50) IR viewer that’ll do ~visible to 1300nm? amazon.co.uk/dp/B0BPM1NTTX If you want to go old school, you can even get a handle for it! amazon.co.uk/Fishawk-Infrar…
New research @BMCMedicine, led by Dr @olegglebov1 @KingsIoPPN, shows that #mentalhealth patients who were prescribed antidepressants were less likely to subsequently test positive for COVID-19. Researchers analysed data from over 5.6k patients using CRIS. maudsleybrc.nihr.ac.uk/posts/2023/jun…
Exciting times! Bringing more flexible microscopes to more people with @CZIScience #ImagingTheFuture and openFrame imperial.ac.uk/photonics/rese…
We’re also supporting collaborative projects that are #ImagingTheFuture by accelerating the dissemination & adoption of cutting-edge imaging technologies, methods, platforms and training resources czi.co/3kJUNze

Tried to start a microscopy joke but couldn't find a way to resolve it.
I have an art history joke but it makes more sense if you look at it in the context of the society which produced it.
Some hospitals in England now have doctors who fulfil a role called car triage. This involves them going around cars stuck in NHS hospital car parks and checking on ill people in cars who cannot get into the hospital because there are no beds etc. Why is this Govt still here?
Harrowing words from a senior emergency medicine doctor showing the despair at not being able to provide the level of care every doctor hopes to for their patients. Every doctor, nurse & HCW can empathise with this right now. Shared w/ permission. Pls RT to get this out there.
