Like a lot of people I was elated that László Lovász and Avi Wigderson won the Abel Prize on Wednesday (abelprize.no/c76389/seksjon…). So, to honor (or maybe horrify) Lovász, I'm going to Tweet what will likely be a long thread about one of his top contributions, the LLL algorithm. 1/
A cool new lattice visualization tool from my colleague Kate Stange: crypto.katestange.net/lattice-demo/. She also has a bunch of other cool crypto/math demos on the same site.
Ilya's blog post about our hike last weekend (featuring some of my photos)!
Blog post with all the juicy details about the Rim-to-Rim Grand Canyon hike we did a week ago with @huckbennett (26 miles, 6600 ft of descent, 5500 ft of elevation gain, 11 hours)! purposefulrunning.org/grand-canyon-r…

PSA: Springfield, OH of recent "immigrants are eating pets" hysteria is a lovely place, and there are beautiful woods and limestone formations nearby. I spent a solid of time there when I lived in the Midwest, and it's where I did my first trail running race.
A talk by my CU math colleague Kate Stange on an Annals of Math paper that she and her group wrote! Kate is a great expositor, as I know from sitting in on her graduate cryptography class this past spring.
CU's first theory seminar of the year is happening tomorrow at 10AM MT with a talk by @sriram0339! The seminar is hybrid in-person/Zoom, so it's possible to attend remotely (email us for a link). I'm also helping to organize the seminar, so ping me if you'd like to give a talk!
Excited to kick off our hybrid CS Theory Seminar for the year w/ Sriram Sankaranarayanan from our very own PLV group Fri 2024-09-06. "Approximations for the k-linear regression problem" joint work w/ Berger & Narasimhamurthy. home.cs.colorado.edu/~srirams/ colorado.edu/cs-theory/theo…
Binge watch lectures from Frontiers in Complexity Theory over the holiday weekend! Metacomplexity (Rahul Ilango), algebraic complexity (@nutanlimaye), derandomization (Roei Tell), ECC (Swastik Kopparty), C^3 LTC (@wjmzbmr1), and keynote by @rrwilliams!! youtube.com/playlist?list=…
