The world needs an open, compressed, geospatial, and spatially-accelerated point cloud archive and transmission format. Read my article at lidarmag.com/2021/12/27/clo… to find out how COPC enhances #LASzip to provide it.
I just submitted my responses to the survey. You should too! I am likely the most oddball respondent to the survey :) Whatever your use is from simple to crazy complicated or your skill level, please do respond!
Frank Warmerdam has already filled in his GDAL survey. Please help us by filling out yours.
The first ever GDAL Users Survey is now open for feedback at docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAI… The survey is an attempt to provide structured guidance for the maintenance program to focus its efforts in the coming year. Please contribute and help us circulate it!

Don't forget, nominations for this year's Sol Katz Award end this coming Friday, so please submit a nomination, to thank someone in the #foss4g community: see steps at wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/Sol_Katz_… (it's the 20th year of the award!)
GDAL is one of the most important pieces of #geospatial infrastructure. @sparkgeo is proud to support @GdalOrg
Maintaining and funding @GdalOrg, the "operating system for geospatial", is a critical need in our industry. @howardbutler talks about fundraising efforts the last several years and lessons learned to create a sustainable GDAL. #FOSS4GNA
For geospatial stack, I would still recommend relying on conda-forge as much as you can. The wheels situation is much better but still not perfect and you may still get segfaults due to wrong binaries being linked. Conda-forge and pixi/mamba/conda solve that.
really nice how IGN integrated an online viewer for Cloud Optimized Pointclouds of their national lidar campaign
To preview France LIDAR data go to geoservices.ign.fr/lidarhd , click a blue tile, click a detailed black tile, click the eye and there is the preview!

Announcing the call for nominations for the 2024 Sol Katz Award. Please take some time to nominate & thank someone in the #foss4g community, see steps at wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/Sol_Katz_… (it's the 20th year of the award!)
FOSS4G NA call for papers closes tomorrow (Sunday June 9). Last chance to dance. foss4gna.org
Time to nominate someone, yourself included, to recognize their contributions to FOSS4G. wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/Sol_Katz_…
I think one of the best things about the @GdalOrg 3.9 release is going to be the refactor to the drivers such that they can be loaded in a deferred way without much performance impact. This will allow GDAL's huge dependency footprint to be managed much more effectively.
GDAL 3.9 was released today with a bunch of updates for @GeoParquet, including support for spatial filtering in the upcoming GeoParquet 1.1 version! Credit to @EvenRouault and other GDAL contributors 🙇♂️! github.com/OSGeo/gdal/blo…
The @foss4gna call for papers and workshops is now open. #gischat #foss4gna talks.osgeo.org/foss4g-na-2024/
the spec lets you generate non-backwards-compatible files with only alt-crs coordinates and null geometry members for every features, and i suspect that many writers will do exactly that, and then all geojson readers will have to explicitly switch on these two flavors of spec
it also lets axis order be configurable(?) and links to a word document file that explains how exactly how docs.ogc.org/DRAFTS/21-045r… it links to a spec that you can't read with ogc membership in the footnotes. the ogc are just bad stewards of specs imho
My brother-in-law's article got picked up by @USATODAY
As Iowa and Caitlin Clark open the Final Four against UConn, a professor's new analysis shows why Clark has been much more than the NCAA's top scorer. usatoday.com/story/graphics…
My BIL Dean DeCock from @TrumanState wrote a deep dive on the unique combo of assists and scoring that make @CaitlinClark22 unique in the pantheon of WBB history to date. Give it a read on his site at decock.sites.truman.edu/caitlin-clark/
