The increase in UK borrowing costs since last week’s budget has wiped out all of Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves’ headroom against her main fiscal rule trib.al/F36VM4L

Excellent analysis @GavinQuinney Increasing alcohol duty has raised less, not more revenue for @hmtreasury @RachelReevesMP @WSTA_Miles @wstauk

The graphic shows UK duty increases on 1 Aug 2023 The latest HMRC alcohol duty receipts data was released today. Between Sept ‘23 & Aug ‘24, year-on-year receipts were: ◦£1.3bn lower overall ◦Wine: £238m lower ◦Spirits: £757m lower ◦Beer: £320m lower ◦Cider: £24m lower

"The UK has the most remarkable position in the global [wine] industry, and if you look at the role it's played..it's been at the epicentre of the trade's activity, the industry's activity." Richard Cochran, @felixsolisgrupo Find out more below ⤵️ youtube.com/watch?v=Vgfd-4…

It is genuinely difficult to know what to say. This outcome has been so obvious for so long. I'm afraid the medicine is going to taste pretty awful. #Bordeaux #Wine wine-searcher.com/m/2024/07/recr…

Sunak’s wine legacy. The highest rates of duty on wine in Europe, with 64 bands of duty (to replace just 2!) from 1 Feb 2025. Will the next government do the right thing - it’s a simple move - and help businesses and consumers? My monthly newsletter… newsletter.bauduc.com/t/y-e-mjyduyd-…

Good piece indeed, but gosh how many times do we all have to these points. 🙉

Bordeaux romps home... possibly unfair comparators!

A very decent gesture from LLC. 40% price fall on last year. Granted 2022 is a high benchmark and the 2023 will be a similar price & score to 2015 & 19 already in the market, but sends a strong message to other big names in Bordeaux. Good start. #bdx23 #wine

For a classified growth cutting below E25 per bottle is tough given the costs of competing at this level. But at E100, owners should be making 70%+ margin, @ E200 80%+ and @ E500 90%+! Only the top 30 wines can rescue the campaign (possibly the system). thedrinksbusiness.com/2024/04/first-…
