Another Crested Tit appreciation post. The intricacies of the plumage are only really noticeable from up close. The almost monochrome plumage against the red, adult-type eye, so beautiful!
An unexpected visitor greeted me on return from work this evening. He was having a mega time nibbling on the plants in the garden pond! Weirdly the second record tufted duck on the pond.
Word of the day is ‘recrudescence’ (17th century): the return of something terrible after a time of reprieve.
A Ring Ouzel, caught this morning, became the 66th species ringed in the garden. It was a first year male bird and is the first time I’ve encountered the species on Pennard Cliffs. #BirdRinging #RingOuzel #GowerBirds @GOWEROS1

A bit of a dream achieved. One day in the Lower Amazon and I have ringed a Hoatzin. These are one of the most primitive birds in the world that is considered as being a step away from the archaeopteryx.
