The best way to gauge others’ values isn’t to ask them directly. It’s to see who they respect. Shallow people are impressed by superficiality. They look up to beauty, fame, money & power. Deep people are drawn to substance. They admire wisdom, kindness, creativity & integrity.
In order to fight a culture war you will have to partner with the 'Powers and Principalities'. Jesus was tempted by this strategy and resisted. May we follow this narrow way.
Fear sells more than sex does. Nothing elicits allegiance and action across all populations like "be afraid". So when you hear the language of fear, you are not hearing love, you are hearing control. #loveoverfear
2000 years later, and people are still wanting to use the sword, call down fire from heaven on others, and use Jesus to overthrow Rome. The zealots never died. Humans have always wrestled against God’s patience, thinking it’s not as efficient as they think they are.
Being salt and light isn't about making society conform to Christian values. It's about demonstrating to people that life in Jesus is far better than anything else so that they want to meet him too.
