Zooplankton people (especially Daphnia folks) who do fieldwork: have you compared density counts for samples counted live vs. those preserved in ethanol (e.g., collected 2 samples in same lake & date, counted 1 live & other after preserving)? How consistent were the counts?

Just making sure all of my #AnnArbor friends know - the @a2market is now open Wednesdays and Saturdays, making up for last year's closure with a flood of spring flowers and produce.

Just posted a photo @ Ann Arbor Farmers Market instagram.com/p/COxfW2_jXWf/…

Super excited about @SyuanjyunSun joining the lab!

Thrilled to announce that I'll be starting a new postdoc position to work with @duffy_ma at #UmichEEB. Really look forward to the new adventure and the fantastic team!

On Tuesday, May 18th at 10 am we are excited to have Kevin Amses' dissertation defense: Single cell sequencing facilitates genome-enabled biology in uncultured fungi and resolves deep branches on the fungal tree of life. Check your email or DM us for details. Best wishes, Kevin!

From my co-advisor, @JeffreyKConner: If you aren't thinking about traits, you aren't thinking clearly.

What's the catchphrase from your PhD supervisor that stuck with you and you hold it in as a lemma?

True credit goes to my undergrad advisor, Nelson Hairston Jr! A pithy reminder to be safe in the field (and elsewhere!)

Good news: we have a functional furnace again! Not good news: the fix is likely to only be temporary, especially since the furnace is 19 years old. Also not great: there was a dead bat in the furnace. Sigh.

Thrilled to be appointed faculty in @HarvardChanSPH's Immunology & Infectious Diseases Dept. The last year has been a "whirlwind", but through it all... I tapped into my purpose at the intersection of science *and* public health. And, at Harvard... I will "take it up a knotch".

We are so excited to be welcoming @KizzyPhD to @HarvardChanSPH as assistant professor in the Department of Immunology and Infectious Diseases, following more than six years as a research fellow at the @NIAIDNews Vaccine Research Center. hsph.harvard.edu/news/press-rel…

Congrats to lab undergrad Haley Essington who received High Honors for her honors thesis work on virulence evolution!

NEW: SUNY & CUNY will require vaccinations for all in-person students beginning Fall 2021. I encourage all private colleges & universities to require vaccinations as well.
