a question I've been mulling over since AAG: are there any substantial distinctions between "digital geography" and critical/interpretive approaches to HCI? are primary orientations towards spatial analysis still critical to geography? @DavidNemer @DigitalGeogSG @alogicalfallacy
Hey #aagdc you up? Have enough in you for two more sessions? Join us for two community geography sessions in room Maryland A in the Marriott. Starting at 8am (there will be coffee) @jerry_shannon @mapbosse @timlhawthorne
Big shout out to those presenters at the #aag for whom English is not their first language, and to those who additionally struggle with the effects of jetlag trying to get their message across. Anglophone conferences of this size can be intimidating spaces, I hear you!
The whole notion of “canon” needs to go, says keynote panelist @agaleszczynski Past time to stop citing/assigning totalizing theory and political economy of the digital in favor of grounded, empirically-sensitive work that attends to embodiment, difference, and differentiation
Provocation from #DigitalGeographies keynote panelist @jgieseking to “rethink the politics of visibility” in mapping queer space: whose stories get archived, who should be left off the map and why, inspired by @harassmap, @antievictionmap and many more!
Keynote panelist Brian Jordan Jefferson came to geography through studying the NYPD and CompStat for his dissertation; doing community-based research he saw how the police used maps and GIS to frame the debate around the spatialization and thinking of crime
Melissa Gilbert reminds us on the #DigitalGeographies keynote panel that we can’t simply describe/analyze technology and then just “add poor and marginalized people” at the end, but need to center their perspectives and experience throughout our research
Digital Geography SG keynote panel @agaleszczynski @jgieseking Brian Jordan Jefferson, Melissa Gilbert on the topic of Digital Geographies of difference, tweet questions to @DigitalGeogSG
Our #aagDC keynote panel on “#DigitalGeographies of Difference” is happening in 45 minutes in Roosevelt 1! Please come by for what will be a great discussion and/or tweet questions & thoughts at us

After years of research, writing, editing, having a baby and going on maternity leave, and more revising, my article on the Automated Landlord is finally accepted! Worked hard on this one, and can't wait to see it go live.
