Competition leads to lower prices. That’s Economics 101. But when there’s market power, prices are a mark-up over marginal costs. And when market power increases, prices increase. Profits then increase as a share of national income. 🧵1/6

A farmer, a fox, and a chicken need to cross the river and they only have two rapid antigen tests among them. What is the optimal testing strategy if the farmer and chicken share a household but the fox had a negative PCR on Wednesday?

We know that economics has a gender and racial diversity problem. Socioeconomic background is less often discussed. @SchultzzyRun and I use the Survey of Earned Doctorates - a census of all PhDs from US institutions - to study the socioeconomic background of econ PhDs (1/N)

Returning the thanks. Thanks to @rodrickdani for arguing that redistribution is not enough to fight inequality. Need to look into the production stage itself, think hard about how to create more good jobs. Need to look at R&D, technology adoption, internal firms' organization.

Kudos to my co-editor @ojblanchard1 whose brainchild this project was and who invited me to join (and for his patience in chasing reluctant chapter writers...)

There is a lot of discussion of bias in economics. This discussion is justified & needed. What I can add to this is some stories on how economists treat people from outside the field. Let me share with you a few bone chilling stories of what I’ve been through 🧵/1 #EconTwitter

Wow, this by ITV News is the best footage I have seen from inside the Capitol. The journalist notes: "America's long journey as a stable democracy appears to be in doubt."
