@JeffDean @GCPcloud R.I.P. MapReduce. After having served us well since 2003, today we removed the remaining internal codebase for good. Of course, external users of MR on GCP will continue to be supported with our fully upstream compatible managed Hadoop platform, Dataproc.

If you run #Hadoop in Google Cloud, you'll want to upgrade to the new GCS Connector 2.0. This blog covers the improvements we added, in collaboration with @TwitterEng cloud.google.com/blog/products/…

Love this thread. During my time at Amazon, many years later, this work was still seen as one of the most impactful things the whole of Amazon enginnering had ever done and a key reason for the company’s early success.

If you're wondering what "P-four-nines" means, it's the latency at the 99.99th percentile, meaning only one in 10,000 requests has a worse latency. Why do we measure latency in percentiles? A thread about how how it came to be at Amazon... twitter.com/timbray/status…

Enjoyed speaking about Partly Cloudy with @lohitvijayarenu at the @DataWorksSummit in Washington DC. Packed room and lots of questions at the end. Had fun catching up with our east coast coworker @sadineni

New blog post is out! On validating data transfers between HDFS and Cloud Storage. A great example of collaboration between @gcpcloud and @twitterhadoop adding a key feature to an open-source project - in this case, Hadoop. cloud.google.com/blog/products/…
