You cannot walk to where you are going. You cannot ride a bike. You cannot take a bus. You cannot take a train. You cannot take a subway. You must purchase, fuel, and insure your own vehicle or rent one from another person. You are free.

the very top earners working at denver rec centers make $2k less than an entry level DPD officer *all* rec center employees provide infinitely more community value & safety than any cop ever has

City of Denver says it IS NOT laying off employees to pay for the migrant crisis But the city IS telling hourly employees they may have their hours reduced to zero For now, It could impact coaches, lifeguards, front desk staff etc. at rec centers But don't call them layoffs...

They just straight up admit government works its ass off for highways and nothing else 😭

BREAKING NEWS: The 10 is going to be safe to drive on tomorrow — WEEKS ahead of schedule — because of urgent action and collaboration at all levels of government. When we work together, nothing can stop Los Angeles.

i interviewed a japanese bespoke shoemaker last month and asked why are there so many craft-based businesses in japan, like bespoke tailors. he said rent is relatively low in tokyo, so if you have a passion for making suits and you only have a few customers, you're fine.

It seems like a lot of money until you realize that we spend like 2.5x this amount on roads basically every year without even really talking about it.

The MBTA needs a gobsmacking $24.5B just to repair and replace its decrepit track, stations, trains, signals, and other assets, an agency analysis released Thursday shows, providing the long awaited tally of just how broken the transit system really is. bostonglobe.com/2023/11/16/met…

We're often told US cities are too car-dependent to change overnight but we now have evidence from two accidental experiments in Philadelphia & Los Angeles where major highways were taken offline overnight, and transit ridership increased dramatically overnight

we need to eminent domain the denver country club. there is no reason that the cherry creek bike path should not follow the creek the entire time, and golf courses are the worst use of land in the city.

I always forget after the first snow of the season that while most of the trail might be passable, Denver Country Club makes sure to send a big FU to the rest of the city. Don’t they have a full time grounds staff and like $100k annual dues? #BikeDen

Anyway, the world is on fire but I had to share that my research came to life and called me out of the blue today. We are never going to have abundant, affordable housing until we can stop local "interests" from blocking everything. n/n

If I could give any candidate for NYC city council or state representative advice on transportation issues, I’d tell them they need to be prepared to tell constituents: “fuck your free parking.” Point blank, end of discussion. Grow a backbone. This is the only line you need.

Is there any other domain of US life where one group is permitted to kill another group with such frequency and impunity? About *half* the road deaths in LA are people on foot/bikes; primarily because the *convenience and property* of motorists is prioritized over their lives.

If you take the $3 shuttle bus to the airport in Boston, they give you a voucher to skip to the front of the security line. We should have similar perks to get people to take transit to SFO (though our security lines are generally very fast). @wafoli

Public comment enfranchises the predominantly wealthy at the expense of everyone else.

What’s a local government opinion that will have you like this?

where's this energy when it comes to a 5,000lb suv speeding through a red light? double parking? cutting pedestrians off in a crosswalk? blocking a bike lane? it's pretty sick that the safety enforcement we're getting is so narrow.

The number of people who can justify covering homes and business with pavement for empty vehicles but think we run out of room for ebikes and scooters is legion.

E-bikes have their place, but NYC shouldn't be one of them. It's too crowded, and with abundant other options like transit, walking, or regular cycling, there's no need for e-bikes, mopeds, electric scooters, etc.

A century ago, the Automobile industry undertook a campaign to obscure and invert the moral distinction between killing someone with a car and *being killed* & shift the blame for road deaths to the most vulnerable. Accepting this framing requires that we become moral imbeciles.

One of the best ways for drivers and pedestrians to avoid crashes is to keep your eyes up and pay attention- no phones, no earbuds and pay attention to your surroundings. And drivers, let's slow down too!

We've fallen down a rabbit hole into a wonderland where most fire engine calls are in response to traffic crashes, our fire engines are too big to operate anywhere other than on wide streets and most car crashes occur because our streets are too wide. denvergazette.com/aurora/denver-…
