Here are 90+ websites to support math teachers.

Just a heads up that I'm going to be shutting down this Twitter account soon and heading over to the Blue social media app. You can find me over there by looking for my name and I'll add a link to my profile to my blog here: davidwees.com

The number of users, especially in the #MTBoS and #ITeachMath worlds, on that blue social media space seems to have exploded in the last few days. The conversation is more civilized, the ads are nonexistent, and the feel is surprisingly hopeful. Come join us in the Sky! 😉

Tabletop RPGs and board games could see dramatic price increases under Trump's proposed tariffs on Chinese imports. Steve Jackson's Games is already warning of the potential devastation the tariffs will cause: sjgames.com/ill/archive/20…

Cís friends, I need you to hear this: Putting trans people in camps won't look like putting trans people in camps. It'll look like banning HRT (just like mifepristone), then criminalizing possession of estradiol or testosterone w/o a prescription (just like marijuana). 1/7

While Newton's Cradle is very well known, only slightly less well known is his very next invention, Newton's Tangle.

TikTok is showing me a new STEM channel. All the science and technology videos are fascinating and every single math video I've seen is so boring. Just some talking head talking about how to solve some exam problem. We gotta do better, y'all.

I have felt this tension frequently as a parent. My friend once said, "You are the worst kind of parent for a teacher. You have strong opinions and know what you are talking about." I've tried to have more empathy since then for my son's teachers.

I emailed the teacher about the turtle method. It's really hard to find the balance between advocating for conceptual math teaching and trying to maintain a friendly, non-awkward relationship with my child's teacher. If you have managed this successfully, I would appreciate tips.

In #DreamBoxLearning, we have lessons that focus on this idea @howie_hua is sharing. I love the idea of using sense-making as a tool for decimal multiplication!

We don't HAVE to rely on counting digits/moving digits when multiplying or dividing decimals.

I haven't had a chance to do a blog post about this, but my youngest son loved this game!

Reading "The New Classroom Instruction That Works: The Best Research-Based Strategies for Increasing Student Achievement" and a consistent message is both direct instruction and guided inquiry, in various forms, are needed to support students. #mathed

Remember when school districts started selling off land and school buildings during our BC austerity and there was an outcry? Things like this are the result of inadequate planning for the long term and what people were outcrying about. #bced cbc.ca/news/canada/br…

It looks like he found a job he's qualified for!

This is awesome 😎

I still think about this every so often.

And now here is a very simple way of defining addition and multiplication on a number line using the geometry of parallel lines.

We need a 'small s' science of Learning (soL) and a 'big S' Science of Learning (SoL) with the former denoting a narrow, one-sided set of research on learning (e.g. retrieval, cognitive load), and the latter based on the breadth of research on learning.

Highlighting how a small amount of moderation can vastly improve quality of information.

A paper out of New York University on social media finds "0.1% of users shared 80% of fake news," and "74% of all online conflicts are started in just 1% of communities" sciencedirect.com/science/articl…

Words have power. Labeling students as 'low' sets the bar low. Challenge the status quo—expect greatness, and teach accordingly. #RuthlessEquity

Surprising no one in the #mtbos, a meta-analysis of visualization in mathematics teaching shows it has a positive impact on student learning. sciencedirect.com/science/articl…
