I feel like to many people don't recognise fascism because they think fascism will arrive selling oppression and tyranny, but if you're part of the privileged group fascism is selling you safety, normalcy, and tradition

masking for myself. for my parents. for my chronically ill/disabled fans. for the masked lady on a plane next to me tearing up at the sight of my mask bc she's going thru chemo. masking to save even 1 life, to make even 1 person feel safe. bc it's all worth it even when it's hard

Masking can be hard & gets uncomfortable & frustrating & covid safety in general requires you to restructure your life. But we can’t build a new world if we aren’t willing to give up our desire for normal. Esp when the normal we miss let the most marginalized fall through cracks.

My 9 y/o daughter just said: “Someone needs to invent a phone that stays in the house that everyone can hear and answer.” Y’all….🫢🥲

Of all the places to wear a mask - hospital & airplanes should be easy sells. Hospital - where the sickest people & strongest germs are. Airplane - you’re literally in a tin can in the sky within inches of ppl from ALL over the world. Why risk getting sick before destination?

Some things I’ve learnt over the last few days as an inpatient that I will use in my clinical practise - staff work hard and are trying their best, that a smile to a patient makes all the difference, to flush cannulas gently because it can sting at the start, that being told…

I think the average well-intentioned person sees effective Covid mitigation as too hard to consistently keep up, so they decide to opt out entirely, and in doing so, they conclude that Covid must not be that harmful. And thus they see those who take precautions as over the top.

💕 Today, we celebrate 4 incredible years of Clinically Vulnerable Families (CVF)! 💕 🎉 Four years ago today, Lara Wong founded CVF with a mission: to ensure that families, like her own, had access to the latest scientific knowledge and support to manage their Covid risks.

Being Covid informed is a wild ride because everyone acts like you're an alarmist, while your decisions are based on peer reviewed studies from The Lancet, JAMA, etc and theirs are based on "feelings" and "The gov't says I don't have to."

There’s a massive information gap between COVID conscious people on this site and the general public. They think we’re being alarmist or exaggerating and not understanding that the government is minimizing infectious diseases like COVID and bird flu!

Violet Affleck: “I contracted a post-viral condition in 2019. I'm okay now, but I saw first-hand that medicine does not always have answers to the consequences of even minor viruses." So sorry you went through that, Violet, but thank you for your advocacy. Go Violet 💜💜

Screenshot of my complaint to the BBC about the terrible 'Summer Wave?' article. I don't mention Prof Hunter; I don't want to personalise this & he is irrelevant. The data is clearly wrong - this is where we need to focus our efforts. Let's give them a busy Monday morning!

Genuinely, I don’t think any party has any business claiming a strong record on public health, supporting vulnerable communities and worker’s rights if they’re unable to commit to pandemic preparedness, including clean air policy, better workplace policy, and support for impacts.

‘We have hit peak denial’ - excellent piece in Scientific American. As a truth teller, I feel validated by this recognition of the difficulties of facing hostile mass denial of C19 and climate change threats archive.md/YNK3D

Imagine if instead of removing covid mitigations we had creative public health campaigns about respirators (how they work, how to choose one, how to check fit) and then made them freely available in public spaces? Imagine if we displayed CO2 readings & cleaned the air? Imagine.

Can we please stop referring to the pandemic in past tense and climate change in future tense?
