Nature protecting Nature and People: Seagrasses reduce human pathogens by 65% in Puget Sound waters. Kudos @SeaDocSociety for the special #SalishSeaWild episode about our study with @JoleahLamb and @WDFW and @waDNR and team. youtube.com/watch?v=Mt3za0…

New @ConBiology paper led by S. Hardison shows #restoration enhances #fish production and #biodiversity. In a 7-yr study, restored #seagrass meadows yield 6× more fish and 2× more diversity! Better habitat for seagrass → more fish. doi.org/10.1111/cobi.1… @vcrlter @USLTER @NSF

Great day in the field yesterday on San Juan Island! Looking at tide pools with and without Phyllospadix to quantify its effect on community composition and tide pool metabolism.

Enjoy this snapshot of a glimmering seagrass bed as we celebrate #WorldSeagrassDay today! These underwater meadows are one of my favorite places to spend time and explore🌱🤿

Seagrass beds provide unique habitat for a wide array of marine species, whether that be lizardfish, squid, or sea cucumbers! These meadows of vegetation turn bare sediment into havens of refuge and food supply for organisms at all trophic levels.🐚🦐🐠🦈 #3Cs43

Today our Tropical Marine Ecology class visited three types of mangrove forests with our professor @MangroveMatt ! We explored how overwash, fringing, and riverine mangrove forests differ, and we also observed how prop root epiphyte communities vary🌳🦀🌊

To get to know the structure of the seagrass beds outside of STRI, our Tropical Marine Ecology class with @MangroveMatt collected data on blade length, width, and % cover at different depths. We saw that % cover decreased as depth increased likely due to less ☀️! #3Cs43

The restored eelgrass in VA’s coastal bays is one of the great large-scale success stories in marine restoration, & now it’s the first place on Earth soon to have a validated & verified seagrass #bluecarbon market project. #BuildingAmbitionUSN4C Read more: usnature4climate.org/2022/11/06/vir…
