Watching with concern for our @HJA_Live colleagues, their science, and these precious ecosystems…

Rough afternoon for the @HJA_Live community as we get updates on the Lookout Fire. All staff evacuated and safe. We join them in mourning as fire threatens our favorite forest & homes of many long-term staff. #lter @USLTER inciweb.nwcg.gov/incident-publi…

Your @vcrlter moment of zen on a rainy dawn salt marsh, with the ghost forest looming behind.

2+ years taking the same route to my lab, speaking to the same person each time. Today they gave me a heads up that I’ll be getting a work order to dump their waste….once I led the convo towards them realizing I’m a PI, there was no apology…just backtracking. #BlackInSTEM 🤷🏾‍♂️

Almost everybody answers this incorrectly in my opinion. They give a single answer like in math instead of a range of answers like in statistics. That’s why statistical thinking is better than math thinking when it comes to real life problems.

I made a post for my Instagram about graduate research fellowships in marine science (and other fields) and thought I might as well post here too since it’s scholarship season! Hopefully it’s helpful to someone 🌊

Your moment of @vcrlter zen, courtesy of the seagrass meadow.

Dr. Cora Baird Reposted

Ever wonder what a boating prop scar looks like in a #seagrass meadow? This is the reason @vcrlter researchers are often seen “putting” slowly throughout the meadows at low tide to avoid harming the seagrass.

Check out the newly published paper by PhD student Sean Hardison, @Karen_McG2 and @MaxCastorani !

New research by @Karen_McG2 and co-authors find that seagrass restoration yields large and consistent benefits for many coastal fishes, but that restoration and its benefits are sensitive to the dynamic seascapes within which it is established. europepmc.org/article/med/37…

The air quality wasn’t great for our quarterly Water Quality Sampling at the @vcrlter yesterday, but there were some pretty stellar crews out on the bays!
