News around the globe has exposed not only that there are wolves in the fold but also that we, in the name of our God, have allowed them to remain in place among God’s sheep by complicity, cover-up, and deceit. #WhentheChurchHarmsGodsPeople

Not all heroes wear capes, but Marcus does. This is the perfect response to all the Republicans making bad faith arguments that Harris should just implement her policies now.

Christians supporting a candidate is one thing. Christians demanding unquestioned loyalty to a candidate, measuring other Christians’ faith by their fidelity to that candidate, and calling that candidate “God’s chosen one,” no matter how unlike Christ they are, that’s idolatry.

Do not dismiss the power or destructive capacity of either verbal or emotional abuse. Do not think you cannot kill a soul with words alone. You can wound or kill a soul by many means - the lack of physical scars does not mean abuse is not occurring.

Tom is (w)right as usual!

N.T Wright says Americans' defense of gun rights is inconsistent with their defense of the unborn, because they are too polarized by social media, they accept "over-simplified" arguments to fall in line with a particular leader, they can't handle "nuance," and ultimately, they…

This 1000000000X over.

Beware of any Christian movement that demands the government be an instrument of God's wrath but never a source of God's charity, mercy, or compassion.

I’m so weary of the kind of Christianity that cares more about its preferred presidential candidates than it cares about its fellow citizens. I’m so weary of the kind of Christianity that cares more about power and winning than it does about following the teachings of Jesus.

Dealing with abuse in the church isn’t merely a matter of purging it of abusive leaders. We need to deal with our collective intoxication with power in the first place. And that’s not simply a contemporary issue… even the prophets of old had a lot to say about it.

This album continues to be really real good.

Christianity should sound like “the world is full of neighbors to be loved,” not “the world is full of enemies to be conquered.”

What we see a lot in political Christianity is Love God but not loving neighbor (right). Or loving the neighbor without loving God (left). You can’t love God and not the neighbor and you really don’t love the neighbor if you don’t love God. They’re Intimately tied together.

Sorrow is feigned, confession is partial, forgiveness is exploited, restitution is an afterthought, and reconciliation is an illusion, as long as truth remains unnamed.

Can someone explain why people push for abortion to be regulated, divorce to be regulated, gay marriage to be regulated but guns are not? I believe the human heart is deceitful but guardrails help and the law exposes our sin (Paul).

People who are suffering long for help and comfort. We have all experienced this in times of pain.  It is an open door for the church to bend down, like her Lord bent down for us, and enter in with wise, gentle, self-sacrificing, and practical ongoing care.

As another federal government shutdown approaches, pray for furloughed workers and their families; vulnerable individuals who depend on federal programs; and for churches, particularly in the DC area, whose responsibility it will be to support those most burdened by the shutdown.

Our culture isn’t the cause of Christianity’s decline. Christians drifting into nationalism and authoritarianism is the cause of Christianity’s decline. Christianity declines whenever it follows after demagogues rather than Jesus.

3 ways to ruin your life as a pastor. 1. Don’t build a team or if you do, don’t trust them. You’re the professional. 2. Don’t practice sabbath, self care, rest or leisure. 3. Tie all your value to the success of your church, gauged by the number of people coming on a Sunday.
