What the hell is going on in Detroit

We lose the habit of reading because we’re afraid of wasting our time. We think we need to be preoccupied and productive at all times. But people are not machines, and you are nourished by naps and fiction and basking in sunlight, no less than by food and drink.

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Olympics announcer before Simone Biles’ floor exercise: “this is the kinda thing you’ll talk to your kids about.” My dad, after Simone Biles’ floor exercise: “I guess I gotta talk to you about that floor exercise.” Holding that in for 2 minutes won him the dad joke gold.

I’m proud of the work we’ve done to uplift Michigan’s public schools. Teacher pay is up, students get free breakfast and lunch, and we’re expanding access to education from pre-K through postsecondary. Let’s help every Michigander grow to be a lifelong learner.

I don’t think folks appreciate what we’re seeing from the Ds right now. Newsom, Whitmer, Shapiro- every top tier Democrat- has put personal ambitions aside to come out and help the party coalesce around Kamala Harris because they know if we all unite behind her, we can’t lose.

Hi! The best arcs I’ve read in the last few months are: THE MURDERS IN GREAT DIDDLING by Katarina Bivald, HOW TO AGE DISGRACEFULLY by Clare Pooley and PUZZLE ME A MURDER by Roz Noonan. #ewgc

I remember the chaos of weekday mornings, trying to get your kids out the door to school on time. That’s why we’re helping Michigan families and saving them money by providing free breakfast and lunch for every student throughout the school year (and over the summer too!)

See? It can be done!

Michigan public school students to have free breakfast and lunch again this year freep.com/story/news/edu…

This sounds good. Are there any print arcs @librarylovefest please? Thank you!

My fave so far has been WORDHUNTER . Socially awkward and brilliant forensic linguistics student assists police in missing teen case. True crime puzzlers delight. @librarylovefest #ewgc

Yay! Thanks for the heads up! #ewgc

I was thrilled to see a third Evander "Andy" Mills mystery, ROUGH PAGES, pop up on Edelweiss and will definitely be reading it soon! I raced through the last one and have been waiting impatiently for more ever since. #ewgc

I also enjoyed EVERY TIME WE SAY GOODBYE (Jane Austen Society #3) by Natalie Jenner and I’m still enjoying CAN’T SPELL TREASON WITHOUT TEA by Rebecca Thorne. I’m looking forward to today’s chat and hoping to stay in my reading groove. #ewgc 3/3

Thank goodness for DEATH AT THE CRYSTAL PALACE (Below Stairs Mystery #5) by Jennifer Ashley; I felt better after reading a traditional (style) mystery. #ewgc 2/3

I moved in January, participated in judging the Minotaur Books/Mystery Writers of America Best First Novel Competition, and had a party, among other things, all of which took my attention from my regular reading. I felt out of my reading groove. #ewgc 1/3

Why do we need the arts? An almost-blind 88-year old recites a Shakespeare sonnet conjured from her memory, and a rowdy crowd is quieted and listens in enraptured silence. Magnificent.

Judi Dench was on Graham Norton last night to push her new book about her life and work with Shakespeare. After making the point we quote Shakespeare daily without knowing it, this happened:
