"The Western Ghats have been completely destroyed. If action is not taken, a huge disaster awaits Kerala. It won’t take ages, just four or five years. You and I will still be alive to see it. Then you’ll understand who is afraid of the truth." Madhav Gadgil #WayanadLandslide

Exactly my sentiments , Aatreyee Dhar

Spending last month reporting for more than a week for elections from mostly uncovered corners of India just makes you believe that more than half of the hot takes on Twitter by everyone do not matter to people in rural India. Hence, stopped engaging or reading ppl's posts here.

Even I wonder where this is and so many of them , unbelievable

Other than at Eravikulam & Valparai, I remember Nilgiri Tahr in the Nilgiris being very skittish and shy of humans. I don't know where this location is, but concerning that here too they have lost their wariness humans.

It’s 49 days to June 5 , it’s a count down !

It’s 49 days to June 5th the normal onset day of the monsoon in #Bengaluru. Here a dug well 40 feet deep and still providing water to the household is #Readyfortherains. The blue drums have charcoal and gravel as filter for rooftop rainwater which goes into the well .

Sad realty , such a shame !

In the movie Asuran there was a scene where people of lower caste were denied wearing slippers and when a girl wears one she was beaten, paraded with slippers on her head. People criticised saying the scene was unnecessary as it doesn’t exists now. But as usual Reality is often…

What an irony !

Five decades ago, Bengaluru had 68.2% green cover. Aptly called a Garden City. Today, 2.9% green cover. There are still 10-15 big parks & 200+ smaller parks that we visit. But clearly a manmade disaster wherein every available corner of the city was placed with concrete 🙄 #ToI

🙏

A major part of the groundwater crisis in #Bengaluru is the draining of Bellandur and Varthur lakes for desilting. As an emergency measure just filling them with tertiary treated wastewater will fill aquifers upto 10 km.

🙏

Salute to these dedicated health workers who are carrying the polio vaccine to Ichoo, one of the remotest villages in Kargil, even during this heavy snowfall. #ladakh -Photo from social media.

Disgusting

Disgusting. Terrible to see crops grown by hard working farmers stepped on with shoes. I hope this video spurs a change in how cardamom is handled during auctions.

Same , when do we transition!

When do we transition from constant discussions and declarations about environmental issues to tangible actions on the ground? From the Africa Climate Summit to COP28 and now UNEA-6, the cycle continues. When will it end? #UNEA6 Image credit: UNEP/Duncan Moore

Thts so scary

We just have to deal with it, we have brought the plants to this level of ruin, of course we have to bear the consequences. Bangalore will be a empty ghost town soon

Check Raj Bhagats map to understand the situation a bit better !

Here's a compilation of my #maps which can help you in understanding the #Bengaluru #Water situation a bit better. Bengaluru is unofficially a hill station which is located nearly a kilometre above sea level.

Thank you Anand for such a detailed note! Hope Bangalore understands and behaves accordingly, otherwise it’s a disaster in the making this summer 2024

Bangalore’s potable water supply – the math is failing The issue of Bangalore’s potable water supply used to be an obsession of mine when I was a young journalist in the city. I studied and wrote about it a lot from a landscape perspective. This obsession also came from an early…

Bengaluru is no different from Kolar , in terms of its water extraction this 2024!

Bengaluru right now depends on Kaveri river for water supply. Because of its height, Water is pumped for a height of 1000 feet from the river 100km away from the city

Maps by Raj Bhagat

#Thread on Ponniyin Selvan #Maps Last year, I had the opportunity to work as map consultant in director Maniratnam's magnum opus, #PonniyinSelvan movie. Though seen only in bg, there was a lot of professional effort put into maps which must be the 1st in Indian film industry 1/n
