Came back from 3 week holiday and one of my colonies in central london has been robbed out. All the adult bees dead, all the stores gone. It was full of stores when I last saw them little over 3 weeks ago. This is the second severe robbing event I’ve encountered this season.

Disturbing trend in RTBB numbers. Have seen them decline in recent years but this year was really bad for them. Tree bumblebee numbers also noticible down.

Our BeeWalk results show 2024 has been the worst year on record for #bumblebees. The Red-tailed bumblebee has been significantly affected this year. Their numbers have plummeted by 72%. 🐝📉 Donate today to support our vital conservation work: ow.ly/YzlB50TRFqQ

Horrific , sadistic cruelty. No other words for it. RT the hell out of this, expose this sick pastime and show the public fox hunting still goes on in 2024.

More evidence that honey bees are bad news for native pollinators in America. Late season, ground nesting bees and bees with specialist diets most at risk from honey bee competition. sciencedirect.com/science/articl…

Another good reason not to buy commercially reared bumblebee colonies for your garden- more evidence they harm wild bees. news.cornell.edu/stories/2023/0…

And with good reason - bird flu could be the next global pandemic. In recent years it’s been rife in the UK, causing chicken and Turkey shortages and endangering wild birds. Registering poultry flocks is necessary to track and contain outbreaks. There’s already been human cases.

In Britain from next Tuesday it will be a criminal offence to keep a chicken without registering it with the authorities. Clown country 🤡🇬🇧telegraph.co.uk/news/2024/09/2…

It’s late September 2024 and already the @Nomura Serapias Orchids are gearing up for another fantastic display in 2025! @Mike_Waller_ @BSBIbotany @ukorchids

It’s not just wild bees that managed honey bees compete with. New study indicates we need to pay more attention to the effects on non bee pollinators. sciencedirect.com/science/articl…

Ivy flowers are a really importance source of food for an amazing array of insects during early autumn and ivy berries are food for many creatures too. Please think twice before cutting ivy back, as you will be depriving many creatures of food and cover for nesting.

The perils of being a schedule 8 pavement plant. Protected Jersey Cudweed removed by housing/council workers on Shirley rd ⁦@NewhamLondon⁩. We need better trained operatives to avoid such statutory offences. ⁦@iGiGL⁩ ⁦@BSBIbotany⁩ ⁦@fungi_flowers

3 peregrine just now over Broadgate Tower/201 bishops gate roof. Appeared to be a parent bird passing prey item to 2 youngsters. I’m surprised they are not more Independant by now? @LdnPeregrines

A really important message for places like NYC and Chicago where each autumn thousands of birds die from building collisions during nocturnal migration. I’ve seen this first hand! We could do with a similar scheme in @cityoflondon where woodcock are frequent casualties.
