I can’t wait!

This post is unavailable.

Just wrapped up my 1st week on the @archildrens inpatient peds neph service! I had a blast teaching our residents/students basic stoichiometry and renal physiology to debunk the AAP maintenance fluids guidelines (among other things). What’s your favorite topic to teach on?

NIH will begin implementing changes to its peer review process to improve focus on scientific merit & reduce reputational bias. The potential impact of ideas on advancing science should outweigh the reputation of who is applying and where they work. nexus.od.nih.gov/all/2023/10/19…

The Alge lab is officially hiring! I’m looking for a postdoc interested in basic and translational chronic kidney disease research focusing on uremic toxins. DM for details.

Great review parsing out the nuances of albumin-mediated nephrotoxicity. We’ve learned a lot about the importance of modified forms of albumin, but there are a lot of unanswered questions.

The role of albumin in kidney injury remains controversial. Is it a marker of advancing glomerular injury, a marker of proximal tubule injury and dysfunction, or a combination of both? This Perspective examines studies on the kidney toxicity of albumin bit.ly/CJASN0153

Each night at dinner we ask our kids to tell us about two roses and a thorn from their day. Here are mine from week #1 @uamshealth and @archildrens 🌹: amazing new mentors and collaborators 🌹: appreciating differences in clinical practice Thorn: virtual training modules

Big day is today! After a 1 week delay due to my second bout with COVID (impeccable timing) I’m finally starting at Arkansas Children’s/UAMS. Couldn’t be more excited!

I’m excited to share that I’m moving to Arkansas Children’s Hospital later this month. It’s been a privilege to work at Texas Children’s and @BCMPedsRenal I’m sad to leave behind so many wonderful colleagues and friends in Houston, but I can’t wait to get started in Little Rock.

@itskidneysaenz crushing the first of many incredible presentations in peds nephro (and she hasn’t even started fellowship yet!! 🤯) ❤️

Excellent presentation on Tx 💊💊medication standardization at the 1st Annual QI day @bcmhouston by Bianca Saenz, our budding pediatric nephrologist @BCM_Pediatrics

In contrast to other fields, academic med conferences happen on weekends—displacing rest & family time—& leaving people out Toxic grind culture says: Clinicians are value-generating units first & can't be spared on weekdays This *needs* to change 👏🏾 @PASMeeting @APApsychiatric

I really enjoyed #APS2023 and will definitely come back next year. Great venue. Fantastic social events. Phenomenal science. I especially enjoyed the comparative physiology session. I never thought that the cardiovascular physiology of giraffes would be so fascinating!

I have learned so much about circadian rhythm and kidney disease at #APS2023. It’s been a fantastic conference so far.

Congratulations @kimmythekidney! Such a well-deserved award. 👏 👏 👏
