Thrilled to share my PhD work at the Yuval Nir lab @LabNir, now in full paper form, on how sleep-like changes in neural processing emerge during sleep deprivation in early auditory cortex! With Anabel Eckerling, Barak Hadad and Shamgar Ben-Eliyahu. authors.elsevier.com/a/1hKMU_LsQSPr… 🧵
Our latest paper finally in PRINT and on COVER. Closed-loop DBS to augment memory consolidation & brain synchrony in sleep. Bravo to lead author @MAYA_GS and to amazing collaboration with @LabNir at @of_sagol and to team at @UCLANsgy Support @NIH @NSF @ERC_Research @usisraelbsf
Six years ago, the idea of using closed-loop deep brain stimulation in humans to investigate the neural mechanisms of memory consolidation during sleep seemed like a far-fetched dream. Today, it’s published! nature.com/articles/s4159…
1/14 How does sleep help memory? we developed closed-loop deep brain stimulation during sleep in human prefrontal cortex w/ timing based on hippocampal activity TLDR: boosting hippocampus-cortex coordination improves memory @NatureNeuro | rdcu.be/ddxxR
Can someone know why the recent fusion breakthrough is being called “ignition”? I thought that was only when energy generated maintains the reaction? Isn’t this Q>1, where energy out > in?
Amidst terrible fomo seeing all the cool conferences, I’ve been dying to share the news of our latest discovery 🥳 You thought jumping spiders peaked in their coolness? Buckle up!!! We need to talk about #jumpingspiders potentially #dreaming. @PNASNews A thread with #videos 1/7
Congrats @rafi_malach ! fortunate to celebrate this well deserved award with you and be part of this journey; I was lucky to grow with a rare scientist and mentor as role model -- always about the data, never about the politics, Mazel Tov Rafi 🤩
Such an exciting evening - my PhD supervisor @rafi_malach @MalachLab winning the "Israeli Nobel" Emet Prize. Was great meeting everyone. Honored and fortunate to have been part of his lab. Congratulations Rafi! @WeizmannScience @LabNir @MichalRamot @rotembroday @SimonyErez
It's out! check out the preprint of my latest work on sleep deprivation, sleep & auditory processing. A td;lr twitter thread will come soon - I promise!
Our new preprint by brilliant @MarmelAm on how sleep deprivation affect neuronal activity in auditory cortex: it modulates some aspects (eg stimulus-induced “OFF"-states) while other aspects (eg frequency tuning) remain unchanged. Sleepiness = 'mini NREM' but REM = vigilant wake:
It’s out! First tweet and first paper in PhD! Check out our work on the role of the corpus callosum in mediating state-dependent interhemispheric correlations published @NatureComms led together by @yonkatz and yours truly at the @Lampl_Lab nature.com/articles/s4146… 🧵(1/10)
1/ Excited to share our latest #JNeurosci @sfntweets paper, led by @omerxsharon We show that tVNS dilates pupils and attenuates EEG alpha activity. tVNS mimics effects of invasive VNS on LC-NE and arousal-promoting neuromodulatory signaling: jneurosci.org/content/41/2/3… A thread:
On January 6, armed Trumpist militias will be rallying in DC, at Trump's orders. It's highly likely that they'll try to storm the Capitol after it certifies Joe Biden's win. I don't think this has sunk in yet.
Open postdoc position in the lab to lead ERC-funded research on a entirely novel approach for studying human memory and how sleep may help its consolidation, please RT
Huge congrats to @Yaniv_Sela for being awarded the Gruss Lipper scholarship (EGL Charitable Foundation) for his soon-to-begin postdoc with Cliff Saper at @Harvard to study #sleep and its relation to temperature dynamics. I am so proud 😊Looking forward to your discoveries Yaniv!
A fascinating description of top-down circuit in the higher-order thalamus. As an anaesthetist I wonder about links to sedation related amnesia, especially in light of other work on other higher order thalamic structures in reanimation experiments. science.sciencemag.org/content/370/65…
I don’t know enough to confirm their calculations, but if it’s true that R is dipping to 1, then that’s a real sign that we’re doing things right, and learning to manage COVID
Sounds good to me. And I don’t understand people suggesting this is an experiment on volunteers: they get the same PPE that I get, and I never had COVID.
