How does Google optimize its research and systems? We’ve revealed the secrets behind the Vizier Gaussian Process Bandit algorithm, the black-box optimizer that’s been run millions of times! Paper: arxiv.org/abs/2408.11527 Code: github.com/google/vizier Compared to other industry…

We're getting closer to a universal string-based regression paradigm for speeding up optimization. We're already matching SOTA traditional GP-based methods! Congratulations to @tungnd_13 for his amazing work during his internship!

How do we push the boundaries of Bayesian Optimization to handle complex, irregular, or non-numerical search spaces? In Embed-then-Regress, we use LLM embeddings as a universal representation for string inputs, unlocking BO's potential across new frontiers where traditional…

Shout out to my team at Google Deep Mind! Check our paper and GitHub repo to see what made our automated Black Box optimization service work well in practice, billions of times across Google!

Vizier is a tool used in tens of thousands of places at Google for a huge variety of different black box optimization tasks, including hyperparameter search. Especially for high dimensional problems, it's dramatically better than other solutions. There's an open source version!
