White Evangelicals are going to try to gaslight us by co-opting the language of love, neighborliness, and ‘respect for everyone, no matter their vote.’ You do not respect people you oppress. You did not love thy neighbor as thyself; you picked whiteness over Jesus.

I should add, to be fully transparent, that by the end of the day, I had no patience and sort of lost it with some students who made a pile of 50 paper airplanes while I was doing read aloud. It was unfortunate timing. I was not at my best. It’s all to say, we do what we can!

I know we have so much work to do. I am grateful to those who have never stopped doing it. They are who should give us hope. They deserve more from us. Our kids deserve more from us. So tonight, I'll drink my wine and feel my exhaustion. And then tomorrow, I'll get back to work.

Laura Hollister Reposted

By the end of today, I was so exhausted. I got very little sleep and dragged myself through the day carrying all sorts of things. But here I am. With a glass (or two) of wine. Thinking about the world our kids deserve.

It’s allowing ourselves to be called pessimistic and negative because we know shining light on the ways our world could be better is something we have to do if we ever hope to move closer to justice. And that believing that a place can be better is a positive & hopeful choice.

Laura Hollister Reposted

It’s choosing to walk into discomfort because we know it could help to protect those who are being harmed even though choosing to avoid discomfort can seem like a better and easier choice. It’s choosing to do the work, the hard work, that takes time and energy and patience.

Laura Hollister Reposted

That is what we are supposed to do. And going to a single march or protest, that’s not going to cut it. It’s so much more than that. It’s seeking out the voices of those who have been most marginalized, so that we can all better understand how our world is unjust.

Laura Hollister Reposted

In through the nose and out through the mouth because we have to take care of ourselves and protect our energy for the work that matters.

Laura Hollister Reposted

And we are supposed to love and care for whoever we can, however we can, because there should be no hope that those in positions of power are going to do that. And we are supposed to breathe deeply.

Laura Hollister Reposted

And we are supposed to show them, through the ways we choose to live our lives, what it looks like to fight for justice even when it is not the easy choice or the popular choice.

Laura Hollister Reposted

And we are supposed to call our children on their racism and sexism and every other kind of hate. Every time. Every single time. Because that is what teaches them to be better.

Laura Hollister Reposted

And we are supposed to provide our kids who are wrapped in layers of privilege with positive and affirming and accurate messages of all the humans that they have the honor to share this world with.

Laura Hollister Reposted

We're supposed to protect our kids and teach them to do better. We are supposed to surround our most marginalized kids with affirming messages that tell them that who they are is exactly right because that is what is going to help protect them from all the awful that's out there.

Here’s my 2 week’s notice of leaving Twitter and closing my account. Please find me under the same handle at BlueSky. There are people here that I really enjoy and haven’t made it over there yet. Was hoping to wait longer but this loss means it’s time to go.

Fascist leaders don't seize power, they get invited in by people who have decided that actually, they just couldn't care less, turning a blind eye to all the evident problems, ignoring the dangers faced by the weakest in society, and simply hoping they will personally benefit.

I want to learn!!!!!!

here's my offer as a seasoned community organizer of 15 years: if you're freaking out about electoral politics and want to make use of your panic, which is only as useful as it is turned into a labor of love and radical change, let me know if you want to learn how to organize.

Just seems appropriate today.
