It’d be great if PI’s could stop pretending 20-30yr olds should simply be less poor if they want to have a family. Y’all actually do have some power to make change, perhaps you should use it! Or at least get out of the way of grad and postdoc unions who will do it when you won’t
A postdoc with a newborn just told me daycare in Boston is ~$30,000/year 🤯 Despite having dual incomes, the cost is so prohibitive they are considering just going into industry... I wish there was a mechanism similar to the NIH Diversity Supplement to help parents with new borns
