Tried to make blog-length design-focused reviews of some video games I've played recently; until I have the energy to go back and actually finish them, have another long and rambling review series: 1/a continuing saga

We hear songs everywhere in Middle-earth: Hobbits sing, Dwarves sing, Breelanders, Elves, Númenóreans, and the Rohirrim sing, Tom & Goldberry never stop singing – even Orcs and Eagles sing! Singing is important. We need to sing more. Sing today.

If only Democrats had some model from our past for how to win popular support and beat back right-wing authoritarianism.

what will we say when we finally reckon the uncounted dead will the horror of it strike us then? will we at last feel regret? or will we feel nothing at all look away try to forget

"And for my part, I shall not wholly fail of my task, though Gondor should perish, if anything passes through this night that can still grow fair or bear fruit and flower again in the days to come. For I also am a steward. Did you not know?" - Gandalf, RotK (32).

On July 1, 1863 soldiers of the US Army’s 11th Corps struggled on this ground for a “new birth of freedom.” Today, as we cast our votes in favor of democracy, we find ourselves “dedicated here to the unfinished work which they who fought here, have, thus far, so nobly advanced.”

Headed to the polling station on this Election Day.

It's frustrating to have someone who is presumably well meaning say "go protest somewhere else." The point of the protest is to make people think about uncomfortable truths. It is to remind Harris and everyone who uncritically supports her that she can and should do better.

Normie Dems have basically had it with these protesters I don’t really know what their plan is but the base despises now them If I were them I would’ve gone the freedom rider route and confronted Trump and gotten roughed up, both to gain sympathy and because they’re much worse

every “traditional” social norm was invented by advertisers in 1957 and every “newfangled social phenomenon” has been around for 3000 years

This picture is a weird frame for the question because Asia *had* effective 'pike and shot' armies. The real technological gap only opens in the 19th century with industrialization. Why industrialization doesn't spread is complex, but Asian isolationist policy is a major factor

what do you think is the reason why the gap between European and Asian warfare technologies began to widen?

Elon Musk is more than just a billionaire—“He’s the unabashed personification of the type of corporate greed that’s running rampant…And his tendency to want to be in the news so much makes it really easy for us to tell the story of a union-busting villain.” @seiupres, April…

Ok, day 3 of this nonsense. @elonmusk yesterday afternoon when a questioner asked about how to keep AI from influencing politics and you asked for feedback, you *may* have heard me say "my name is Dr. Sarah Case, I recently graduated from CMU as a mechanical engineer" before I…

Lol lmao this election is *already* influenced by AI and it’s called the fucking algorithm 🙄

The one benefit of the AI bubble may genuinely be that we finally spin up nuclear power and can transition away from natural gas when the bubble pops

Google is buying 6-7 nuclear reactors to power its AI

Fantastic line in a book I’m reading by Liz Moore: “Rich people … generally become most enraged when they sense they’re about to be held accountable for their wrongs.”
