dutton points at the $1bn spent by each of the major US parties in and says “we don’t want to go there”. …yet he approves of a $90m spending cap in australia. if our proposed $90 million expenditure cap were scaled by the population of the USA, it’d be A$1.2bn/party.
In Australia, we don't really regulate our banks and financial institutions, media, fossil fuel and mining industries. We don't enforce regulations on casinos when they frequently violate them or restrict gambling advertising...1/7
More than 20 per cent of Australian renters are living in poverty after their rent has been paid, a new study has found. ab.co/4eIK3rq
you’d be surprised how many people hate trees and just want them cut down
Thread: Each week I run a simulation of Australia’s main electricity grid using rescaled generation data to show that it can get very close to 100% renewable electricity with 24GW/120GWh of storage (5 hrs at av demand) Results: Last week: 100% RE Last 170 weeks: 98.6% RE (1/5)
The Stuttgart-based technology consultancy P3 has analysed more than 7,000 electric cars for the durability of their 🔋🪫 batteries. The result: electric car batteries last much longer than expected and simply don't break down. Even the range hardly decreases after a long…
It’s just not healthy that 5 of our 7 most valuable ASX listed companies are banks. These institutions are meant to service everyone else in the economy, not scoop up so much of the value for themselves. No other country has anything like this corporate prosperity imbalance.
Back in 2021, Australia made headlines for having the 93rd most complex in the world, with its closest rival being Uganda. As of the latest figures, Uganda has left us behind. Australia is now the 102nd most complex economy. Our new rival is Senegal. atlas.hks.harvard.edu/rankings
"well, that escalated quickly." Amazing visualization of every space launch in history by @Peterincan, guiding the simple realization that we are in the second Golden Age of space.
The core issue of the political left is fragmentation. The right is able to build coalitions across multiple different, sometimes even competing, interest groups. While the left is busy pushing away people they don't fully align in all issues. The left divides itself allowing…
🚨 Breaking News: @gautam_adani, billionaire chair of the Adani Group, has been charged in the US over an alleged $250 MILLION bribery scheme 💰🤯. Arrest warrants have reportedly been issued for him and his nephew Sagar Adani. pulse.ly/yhiyvyjoa1 🛑 #StopAdani @jugeshinder
Billionaires could be forced to pay a minimum rate of tax on their wealth after a global grouping of nations agrees to effectively tax the ultra-rich. ab.co/40UwXUA
Half of Americans could stop paying income taxes and everything would be totally fine.
France’s shift to nuclear power was one of the fastest and most efficient ways to reduce CO₂ emissions.
🇫🇷 FRANCE: 30g CO2/kWh 🟢 using 68% Nuclear, 23% Wind and 5% Hydro. 🇩🇪 GERMANY: 507g CO2/kWh 🔴 using 37% Coal, 32% Wind and 12% Gas. Provided by @ElectricityMaps, data is about live consumption for the past hour as of 19/11/24 03:01 Berlin's time.
Australia’s ban on nuclear energy undermines global climate action. Fueled by groups like @AusConservation & @FoEAustralia, and backed by the @AlboMP government, anti-science disinformation continues to block a proven clean energy solution at home and abroad. Let’s push back.…

Disingenuous of Jane Hume to suggest a joint parliamentary committee has already looked at electoral reform No one’s examined the 400 pages of legislation introduced yesterday Jacqui Lambie & I will move a motion calling for this scrutiny in the senate. abc.net.au/listen/program…
We don't know how high scarcity pricing will go in principle because electricity markets aren't supposed to function like this. x.com/OskaArcher/sta…
What I comprehended from both engineers & economists is that storage can be economical thanks to marginal pricing at demand peaks, while e.g. flexible gas is economical with respect to the scarcity pricing when there's low/no sunshine/wind.
