The new @CommonsHealth has been fast off the mark with this inquiry. The focus on ‘cost of inaction’ will in practice also highlight the ‘value’ of #socialcare and, while there have been many other enquiries into social care, that is particularly welcome. committees.parliament.uk/committee/81/h…

“I’m confident those services will carry on running properly”. @RachelReevesMP says a 3.2% increase for local government, inc. £600m for #socialcare, in #Budget2024 will cover the increased national insurance costs of care providers. Have to say they are far less confident.

As chair of a fellow non-profit #socialcare provider this is no exaggeration of the threat posed by the #Budget2024 NI increases if we are not protected

This is a very important point and one we must urgently make to government - otherwise the very fabric of good quality social care is at risk. And I genuinely don’t think that is the intention @hmtreasury @SKinnock

This underlines the volume of higher costs that will fall on #socialcare providers. Will the November local government financial settlement, including the £600m announced yesterday, be enough to cover this? I’ve yet to come across anyone who thinks it will.

The cost of hiring a part-time minimum worker will go up by 11% in real terms next year, with the rise in employer NICs contributing at 7%, and the rise in the National Living Wage at 4%. This increase is bigger than the introduction of the National Living Wage in 2016.
