SO PROUD OF OUR TRAINEES!!! Great work by Oniel and Henry!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Oniel Salik & Henry Cohen (Elrod Lab) had an outstanding showing at the Cell Symposia: Mitochondria in Spain this week. At the world’s most premier mitochondria conference, Oniel was the sole winner for his work. Henry was selected out of 250+ abstracts to give a talk. Great job!
🚨PREPRINT🚨 We identified mitochondrial and metabolic dysfunction as key drivers of HFpEF, pathways which are distinct from the effects of hypertension! Excited to finally get this out to the community. Check it out 👇 #HFpEF, #heartfailure biorxiv.org/content/10.110…
TODAY AT NOON! DCVS Trainee Seminar Series - featuring Estaras and Elrod lab trainees!! 📍kresge B
Happy Dawn Marks Research Day!
Jonathan, a former Elrod Lab trainee, is back!!
#TempleMed scientists led by Dr. John Elrod have discovered a critical genetic mechanism driving the process of cardiac fibrosis — and identified a novel target for reversing it. Learn more about their findings at medicine.temple.edu/news/researche… @TheElrodLab @acdc_temple
Exciting work coming out of the Elrod Lab!!
Research| Elrod and colleagues reveal the role of ATP-citrate lyase (ACLY) in #myofibroblast differentiation and cardiac #fibrosis. doi.org/10.1038/s44161… 👉 rdcu.be/dMQr2
We are very excited to be apart of this PPG! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
A Project Program Grant led by Dr. Raj Kishore has been awarded! This PPG features projects led by Dr. Doug Tilley, Dr. John Elrod, and Dr. Wally Koch (Duke). This is the 5th cardiovascular-focused PPG to be awarded to ACDC faculty in the last decade.
Temple undergrad Anya Wilkinson (Elrod Lab) awarded the Frances Velay Fellowship!
HIGHLIGHT: DCVS Scientific Retreat. The ACDC nearly swept all poster awards: Henry Cohen (Elrod), Nadina Latchman (Elrod), Vandana Mallaredy (Kishore), Carolina Gonzalez (Kishore)! Dr. Jillian Simon, Dr. Doug Tilley and Dr. Joanne Garbincius gave phenomenal presentations.
Congratulations to Dr. Steve Houser, PhD - Emeritus Professor ACDC on receiving the Research Mentorship Award! Devoted and loyal to over 50 Trainees at Temple University and mentor to numerous faculty. A true role model.
Excellent work Mike!! We are so proud of you!!
Breaking news!! Michael Lazaropoulos (Elrod Lab) has successfully defended his PhD thesis. He is the first doctoral degree student from the ACDC!
The Aging + Cardiovascular Discovery Center is the combination of two distinguished research centers to create one scientific powerhouse. medicine.temple.edu/news/new-resea…

Featured highlight: Dr. John Elrod delivered lectures at Heidelberg University and the University of Mannheim on the lab's latest work on mitochondrial calcium signaling and metabolic targets to treat fibrosis.
Scientists showed in April that the calcium-regulating protein MICU1 also works as a calcium sensor in the membrane of #mitochondria and maintains mitochondrial architecture, suggesting that it helps govern cellular energetics and cell death. @TheElrodLab scim.ag/5mC
Congratulations to Dr. Srikanth Garikipati (@garikipatisriks2) and the team for their systematic review article on small nucleolar RNAs in cardiovascular health and disease delving into RNA modification and beyond!
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Featured highlight: Dr. John Elrod was invited to the QICC in Beijing to present the latest work from the lab and also moderated a session on Frontiers in Cardiovascular Research.
Dr. Ron Vagnozzi (University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus) gave an exciting talk, “Signaling Mechanisms Underlying Cardiac Wound Healing” delving into the intricacies of inflammatory signaling and how this can be manipulated to promote cardiac repair.
Introducing a new center in the Department of Cardiovascular Sciences led by Director Dr. John Elrod, PhD. "The Aging + Cardiovascular Discovery Center (ACDC) will open up new avenues of research and bring cutting-edge technologies" said Dr. Elrod.
