🎉 Excited to share our collaborative work on the anterior visual pathway is now published! Check it out: nature.com/articles/s4158… Huge congrats to everyone involved! 👏

Have you ever wondered how brains convert sensory info into abstract, cognitive entities? The Kim Lab #mcdb #dyns @UCSB_NRI @UCSB and the Wernet Lab @fubcp @FU_Berlin reconstructed the neural circuits that carry visual information to the navigation center in the fruit fly brain.

Spiking neuron simulation of select fly optic neurons, attempting to show what kind of response a light stimulus moving across the eye could look like in downstream neurons with a Leaky-Integrate and Fire model based on the connectome.

I've combined some of these together into a new #neuro #visualization "In the eye of a fly": Using the @FlyWireNews visual system wiring diagram, #Brian2 spiking #neuron simulator, and #blender. Information flow through the chiasms, across a topographic map.

Discover the neural circuits flies use for navigation! Garner, Kind, Lai, et al. reconstructed the entire pathway from optic lobes to the navigation center and inferred myriad visual features that the circuit extracts. nature.com/articles/s4158… youtu.be/OxuIOqL8gSI

Since most of the fly brain is dedicated to vision (look how large their eyes are compared to their heads!) the package includes two papers that focus on visual pathways nature.com/articles/s4158…

Here it is! A huge milestone in neuroscience – the complete connectome of the fly brain from the FlyWire team (@FlyWireNews). In this special issue, we have 9 research articles. I’ll try to summarize them in a couple threads starting here 🧵

Big news! The fly connectome is featured on the cover of a special edition of Nature. This is all possible thanks to the collaboration of 292 members of The FlyWire Consortium! nature.com/immersive/d428… Check out the thread for an overview of the 9 #flywire papers published today

Thanks Arun for this tribute. Amazing story.

I’m heartbroken to share the sudden passing of a dear friend, Sliman Bensmaia (@slimanjbensmaia). I worked on one of my best papers with him, and doing science with him was a highlight of my scientific career. Read on -- 1/n

Congrats Dustin, Ben, Lucy, Tommy, and Binglin! These people in our lab significantly contributed to this as a part of the FlyWire consortium. (A separate paper is coming out soon.)

We are releasing a whole-brain connectome of the fruit fly, including ~130k annotated neurons and tens of millions of typed synapses! Explore the connectome: codex.flywire.ai Reconstruction paper: biorxiv.org/content/10.110… Annotation paper: biorxiv.org/content/10.110… 1/6
