Ashmeads kernel, picked straight off the tree, cold, crisp and as much flavour as you wish for. It's not the most attractive and a tendency to go rubbery . This variety often exhibits watercore, which can be considered problematic or a highly desirable characteristic.

Howgate Wonder goes into a lovely fluff, Bradley's Seedling is slightly acidic, Golden Noble makes a nice sweet puree. All good choices - why not put in all three?! And it would be remiss if we didn't also mention our #BakeForOrchards campaign here too theorchardproject.org.uk/pies-with-purp… 😉

Best cooking apple variety for apple pie? A/Howgate Wonder B/Golden Noble C/Bramley's Seedling D/ ( don't care. it's all about the pastry and custard)
