It feels like the social contract (if you are good hardworking citizens, we will look after you) is completely broken in the UK. An inevitable consequence of profit/growth as the main measure of value! I no longer trust that an election or new party in government will change this

Before the eyes of the world: Israel is dropping bombs near Beirut’s International Airport as planes full of civilians prepare to take off. Imagine the global uproar if such a scene took place in Ukraine. But since it’s happening in Lebanon, no one even bats an eyelash.

What is the point of the BBC, now that it has ceased to even pay lip service to its obligation to be balanced in the round. It is little more than the publicity bureau of the coalition of right wing interests that are dividing this country by provoking hatred while the rich loot…

In the late 90s & early 2000s we in the UK received (very roughly) 80,000 asylum applications per year. Mainly people escaping Balkan wars. Today in these “unprecedented” times of “invasion” by small boat… we receive pretty much the exact same numbers.

Dear BBC, please do not call anti-vaxxers “vaccine sceptics”. It implies there exists doubt about vaccines. 70-odd years ago we had large numbers of people paralysed or in iron lungs. We don’t see that today and for that we can thank the Salk vaccine.

Anyone else been given a “friendly nudge” not to “tweet about Gaza/Israel so much” because “it could be misconstrued [in the media industry]” I have. To the person concerned: unlike you, I’m not a bully, biased or a coward. I’m evidence driven. Try it again and I’ll out you.

Today is the day when all the tax-dodging celebs appear on our televisions telling poor people to 'give what you can' so that the government can shirk its responsibilities for the most vulnerable in our society.

🧵The day before yesterday, Israel sent an aid truck to a school in Beit Hanoun, accompanied by a promotional filming crew. An hour later, the army raided the shelter, looted and burned the aid, displaced the civilians, and killed some. This thread documents the shelters.

I hate HATE HATEEE that my tax money is going to this. We need to move on these streets like they did for the Iran war cos there should be no way these politicians should be using our money to support the killing of children in another country.

Organised religion is always about power and not about doing the right thing.
