"Shut up, listen, care, and know something." The ideal medical consultation model by Sir David Haslam. Also a good guide to approaching life.

Dear @wesstreeting @Jeremy_Miles I was the on call GP partner yesterday & I had to send another GP home because he was emotionally drained. That left me & 2 other GPs. I left at 20:30 also in tears. Do U realise how drained we are? Ur pushing us all to our limits!

The 14th of November to the 20th December is #UKDisabilityHistoryMonth. With this year's theme being 'Disability, Livelihood and Employment', we wanted to highlight and raise awareness of the presence of disabled NHS staff!

What the NHS really needs most is money-during the Blair years it was given it and it preformed at a world leading level. Since then funding has slowly reduced and daft reforms designed to paper over funding gap have left less efficient. The fantasy of more for less is just that

“Calling for “cultural change” in the health service, he said: “People have got to stop thinking that the answer to the NHS problem is simply more and more money.” thetimes.com/article/3aba82…

There's not a single person on this earth who, on their deathbed, will wish they spent an extra hour in the office. They will regret not spending an extra hour with their loved ones. So work hard, but set your boundaries, you will be a much better and happier person for it.

It's #InternationalStressAwarenessWeek! This week, we're focusing on burnout- a syndrome that is prevalent in the health and care workforce. Did you know that the International Classification of Diseases describes burnout as an "occupational phenomenon"?

“In the memory of West, Lorna Breen, and the 300 to 400 other physicians who will die by suicide in 2024, and in support of every physician and nurse silently battling anxiety, depression, and burnout, we need to create meaningful change.”

William Ballantyne West Jr., MD, an ophthalmology resident at George Washington University (GWU) Hospital recently died by suicide, with his last words being a warning for other residents and those who oversee them.

With an average of 22% of NHS staff from the black community experiencing discrimination from members of the public, it's essential that we report any racism occurring in the workplace and support those affected. If your mental health has been affected by racism and you cannot…

Whole-heartedly recommend @doctor_benji You Don’t Have to Be Mad to Work Here. It’s warm, kind, funny, and shines a light on the challenges in our system. Thank you for such a brilliant read!

Please support my ace team at @vintagebooks who are walking / fundraising for our charity partner CALM. Just £12.20 could fund a life-saving call. Thank you shorturl.at/XeyDK

Very few people realise that the vast majority of hospice and palliative care is provided by charity - not by the NHS. I think this is a national scandal. Please RT if you do too 🙏

In this interview with @skynewsniall, Dr Rachel Clarke (@doctor_oxford) emphasises the need to prioritise quality end of life care. Regardless of Parliament's decision on assisted dying, fixing the funding of our struggling hospice and end of life care system is essential.

The focus for today in SAS week is "SAS as a career choice". Becoming a SAS doctor is how I carried on in anaesthesia, when I would otherwise have left the workforce. Giving people choice about how to progress their career gives us more doctors. #SASweek24
