SO very excited to find out that I was awarded the Rapoport Doctoral Dissertation Grant! $15 000! This will fund my survey experiment asking to what degree American are willing to punish politicians for using #disinformation and how this is modified by affective #partisanship.
Encouraging that exposure to IPCC report can actually influence beliefs and attitudes
🚨New: Encouraging Climate Science Exposure Changes Beliefs and Policy Attitudes But Not Behavior🚨 sites.dartmouth.edu/nyhan/files/20… • Exposure to IPCC report increases belief accuracy, policy support • Effects similar by party/prior beliefs • But NO change in willingness to donate
What a great #AI event in Indianapolis today! Super fun to drive down with some other GRAIL lab members
It's unbelievable that this wasn't the end for him.
I am mourning today. For the environment, for the truth and for the foreseeable boldening of all the autocrats out there.
The importance of democracy on the ballot... for Harris and Trump voters.
Super interesting ideas for how to create global cooperation on safety guards for the development of Artificial General Intelligence #AI podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/fut…
Spouse influence on leaders
How can we measure informal influence of leaders’ unelected spouses? We use our Geocoded ODA Data (GODAD) to test whether sub-national regions where leaders’ spouses are born receive more aid. They do - from European donors, the US, China! Paper and data: godad.me
“We’re the cleanest economy in the world” -Vance. Cant believe the disinformation peddled during this vice presidential #debate
Interesting episode with new research by @RyanPGreenblatt on how to control #AI by using weaker models to discover whether stronger models create “backdoors” that can be exploited to the detriment of humanity podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/fut…
We clearly need more regulation on this
15 million people trusted 23&me with their DNA. Now the company is almost bankrupt, the stock about to be delisted, and almost the entire board has resigned. Who will they decide to sell your info to? 1/
Our brilliant AI lab director and professor, @kaylynjackson on CNN today explaining how politicians blaming AI for their scandals can benefit, based on evidence from her and @Dan_Schiff and coauthor’s survey experiment
Chatted with @smerconish on CNN today about blaming AI after a scandal. Discussed my research on the "liar's dividend" with @Dan_Schiff and @nataliasbueno, published in @apsrjournal cnn.com/2024/09/21/pol… @PurdueLibArts @purduepolsci @EmoryPolisci
Listening to a very interesting panel at #APSA2024 on this book. Thanks for this work, @ValentimVicente!
🚨 My book is out today: academic.oup.com/book/57946 🚨 2024 has been full of elections. In many, radical-right politicians made important electoral gains. My book hopes to contribute to debates on the rise of these politicians by putting forward a theory around social norms. 1/23
Walking back from a full day at #APSA2024. Great panels, conversations, and feeling really relaxed after finishing my presentation.
Presenting my paper on norm shift around to use of disinformation by political actors on this #APSA2024 panel today. Very excited!
Fascinating post and study. Explaining democratic #backsliding by voters rationalizing their choice of undemocratic candidates, to deal with cognitive dissonance. Can’t wait to read it - congrats!

New mass polarization measure!
👊Political polarization is a major issue globally. But how can we measure it? 📊L.Bao & J.Gill introduce a nonparametric, entropy-based measure of mass political polarization, ideal for analyzing trends across countries or over time cambridge.org/core/journals/… #FirstView
