Let’s go Bristol! 🧑🎓🧑🎓🧑🎓🧑🎓 Tonight our intrepid quizzers face Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge in their University Challenge debut. Good luck team, the whole University is behind you! 💪🙌
I am so excited to share this news! I am extremely grateful and feel immensely privileged to return to the department where my fantastic professors and mentors taught me how amazing protein chemistry is and inspired and encouraged me to pursue academic research.
We are pleased to announce that Katherine Albanese will be coming back home when she joins our department as an Assistant Professor in August. Interested research students at all levels should take note! @KIAlbanese
Last week we said (a very difficult) goodbye to Dr @KIAlbanese 3 years has passed since she joined us, she’s been such an inspirational leader and mentor. As Katherine starts her independent career @WakeChemistry, we cheer her on every step of the way. Go shine, Katherine!!💖🌟
Day 9/31 of #inktober2023 inspired by protein structure @buildmodels @PDBeurope Prompt: BOUNCE A fragment of Myosin. Myosins are best known for their role in muscle contraction and trafficking cargo in the cell. pdb: 2n11 Next prompt is FORTUNE. Please send your suggestions
Last week Dek and Xiyue @SeraphimLeng presented at the 8th Foldamers symposium in Munich, engaged with great science and had lots of interesting discussions with the wider foldamer community! Many thanks to the organising committee @ak_huc and @LMU_Muenchen for the conference✈️
I delivered my first international confidence short lecture last week @LMU_Muenchen at the 8th Foldamer symposium! I received lots of inspiring comments and look forward to sharing more results on 310 helical bundles with the foldamer community soon🤞🏻🌟
I gave out “organic chemistry friendship bracelets” (ORGO, ACID, BASE) today to students who volunteered to solve problems on the board in class. Day 1 of this experiment was wildly successful. I had students already volunteering to answer questions in future classes.
Friday submission day - Katherine and Rokas enjoying their celebratory cold beers at Bristol’s iconic suspension bridge, kudos to them both for their hard work!! Check it out biorxiv.org/content/10.110…
Wonderful end to a busy week hearing about the work we do in our @MaxPlanckBris centre for minimal biology. Thank you to the Berger, Mann and Woolfson groups for demonstrating what happens when you share facilities and ideas so openly and effectively.
And that's the end of Day 1, and we've assembled all the TECS cohorts on Indecision (Cantock's) Steps, ft. @sbumbatha, @KristinaClare22 and @JonathanClayden Well done today everyone, looking forward to the presentations from Cohort 2020 tomorrow! #beeroclock
We thoroughly enjoyed our boat trip today! Excellent weather, expert manoeuvring, and a brilliant picnic!☀️
For one of our first talks of the day, we have @SeraphimLeng discussing her work in @ClaydenGroup and @WoolfsonLab on protein helical assemblies! Really great start to the conference #PhD #Protein #CDT #TECS #Conference
Check out our latest paper on @ACSSynBio about designing phosphorylation-responsive coiled coil assemblies. Many congrats to Harry and co! Read it here: scholar.google.com/scholar_url?ur…
My first conference with a poster prize. What a way to memorise and celebrate John’s passion for science and mentoring!
We would also like to congratulate all the poster prize winners.
Thank you to everyone who attend the memorial symposium this week in memory of John. We are grateful to those presenters who gave dozens of talks and posters related to John’s research interests and the countless tributes that were given to our greatly missed friend.
Great to see first year PhD students Theo and @SeraphimLeng presenting posters at the John S Fossey Memorial Symposium at @UoBChemistry this week!
Congratulations to Jonathan, James, Olivia and Will for winning @FusionChemSoc University Challenge last night! Perhaps you should sign up for the real thing next year!
And the final lunch @pasta_loco to celebrate such a successful couple of days - thanks again to the committee (@apphillips98, @DCIFelix, @joeheeley1, @SeraphimLeng, @SazEibey & Zhihang) and of course, the legendary Prof @sarah_reisman! #negronis
Professor Reisman receives the award after her inspiring talk, which was presented by our CDT student Xiyue (2021 cohort).
