My favorite chapter of PhD dissertation was just published, 3.5 years in the making! In the early days of quarantine, I became obsessed with capturing as much genetic variation in the MTBC genome as possible, and we observed something odd happening with the acquisition of INDELs

Read our latest study on phase variation in MTBC. We focused on phase variation that results from rapidly acquired indels in simple sequence repeats. These indels can toggle a gene ‘on’ or ‘off’ through frameshifts or dial-up or down transcription. 1/2 pnas.org/doi/10.1073/pn…

When doing computational modeling on genomes, it's easy to ignore anything that's not a SNP. @RogerVargasJr2 shows that phase variation - rapid expansion or deletion in simple sequence repeats - is an important diversity generating process in M. tuberculosis complex

Words I never thought I would say - thank you reviewer #2 🥰

Very cool collaborating with @EdHuttlin and others at the CCB on this project! If you’re interested in getting tons of data on protein-protein interactions or just you want to check to see if some of your favorite human proteins interact and are a fan of Python/R, see below👇🏽

Would you like to use @HMSBioPlex data in your bioinformatics analyses? Now there's a package (or two) for that! For details, see our brand new tech note on BioPlexR and BioPlexPy to access our data in R and Python. buff.ly/3I6MoOx

💕🥰😍

Maybe the real PhD was the friends we made along the way. #PhDVoice @PostdocVoice

Some exciting insights from @AnnaGGre ‘s latest work!! We know of certain mutations that evolutionarily follow drug resistant mutations in MTB (“compensatory” mutations), but what other patterns of dependent mutations are there for this bug? Read below to found out👇🏽

Excited to preprint this piece of work from my postdoc, where we studied dependent mutational events in Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex (MTBC). Thread (1/n) biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

10 years ago I got rejected from my dream college #mit. Turns out it was for the best. 6 years ago MIT rejected me again for grad school - turns out that was also for the best. Happy #PiDay everyone 🥧 Go #ephs 💜💛 - go #crimson ❤️
