Talked with @NYMag about how to understand Latino voting in 2024. Was the huge shift right evidence of true political realignment, or a sign that this election was a referendum on inflation? The answer is “Yes.” nymag.com/intelligencer/…

Good reporting.

CNN got rare, exclusive access inside El Salvador's Cecot prison, where some of the country's most notorious gang members are held. David Culver tours the controversial high-security facility with prison officials, capturing firsthand accounts from inmates cnn.it/4exgFEz

We are living through the normalization of the absurd.

I am thrilled to announce Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as The United States Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS). For too long, Americans have been crushed by the industrial food complex and drug companies who have engaged in deception, misinformation, and disinformation when it…

I keep thinking about the fact that Gaetz, among many things, invited a Holocaust denier to SOTU, pushed the big lie & said that Antifa was behind J6. The rule of law is upheld in this country because it is grounded in universal values & facts. Now what?

Matt Gaetz pick is so crazy people have forgotten the Tulsi Gabbard pick which was so crazy people had forgotten about the Pete Hegseth pick. Who knows what tomorrow will bring.

As the dust settles, it’s worth revisiting the long-running debate about when voters prioritize group-focused policies. Many Latinos no longer view restrictions on immigration as a “deal breaker.” Why?

Swing voters did not in fact watch the campaign, or conventions, or rallies — for either party. That is, in fact, how we got here. x.com/ryanodonnellpa…

This 👏 is 👏 what 👏 people 👏 wanted. Did you watch the campaign? Did you watch the RNC? It’s not a shock. It’s not a surprise. It’s not out of bounds. It’s not more extreme than what was advertised at every single rally. It was all laid bare for every voter to know.

Latinos: not a monolith but still moving as a group The 2024 shift again cuts across geos, urbanicity & country of origin Caution: precinct analysis is really noisy, & voters in densely Latino areas are likely diff. than Hispanics elsewhere

Sharing a preliminary, step-back look at Latino shifts based on precincts & dense locales… Before I do, remember: we should study big Latino shifts, but that is separate from a diagnosis of how Trump won, which can't be reduced to any single demo. x.com/carlosodio/sta…

We can tell two stories -- (1) huge, historic Latino swings, (2) uniform swing across demos that actually determined the election -- without conflating them. That's the kind of political education we need from our reporters & political scientists.
