It is now apparent then when the DPD delivery app says “we’ve received your order details, but have not yet received your parcel” what they actually mean is “we know we should pick up this shipment but we haven’t quite got around to it yet!” That’s fair for while, but after that?

Decided to update my profile picture (with a nod to the 1930s)…

Still appreciated in the 1970s, and deserving of renewed interest now.

Good paper by ⁦⁦@cacrisalves⁩ and ⁦@danielle_guizzo⁩ on the fascinating Barbara Wootton. tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.10…

Whilst the BBC failed to get sufficient rights to the Olympics coverage, it does not seem to excuse the excessive amount of punditry, retrospectives, & showing the same feed on both available channels. Coverage seems random, & not well described on iPlayer. Poor editorial control

Sidney Alexander and wartime economic intelligence from the 1940s to the 50s. open.substack.com/pub/robertbigg…

BBC Olympics coverage seems patchy and difficult to navigate. Murray tennis match has had no onscreen score info for much of the time - if that’s due to the feed then the commentary should compensate.

TE Gregory, now mostly forgotten, was the archetypal defender of the gold standard well past its expiry date. However his 1933 comments on the aims of monetary policy, not as simple price stability but a broader stability have perhaps endured even if overly optimistic pre-Keynes.

In 1933 TE Gregory published a collection of earlier articles as a book, quite common in the period. Thus the introduction is of interest. This is quite a comment on the interaction of economics and economic history. Here he credits his links with Lilian Knowles, Foxwell & Cannan

🍿 there’s a thought … 😊

Clearly. Can’t wait for the 12 part Netflix series. Joaquin Phoenix as Alvin Hansen and Ryan Gosling as the young Paul Samuelson.
