At the #Montréal airport after a long, invigorating #ASA2024. I'm grateful to all the scholars I learned from, the undergrad students I met, the FGWC community, & especially the plenary speakers. I am full of joy and ready for big things to come (next stop: #jobmarket) #socaf
As an American, I did not expect to see a line of armed police with riot shields facing a [smaller] group of trans rights #pinkbloc protesters *in* the Montréal village during Pride. 1/2
I did however expect this- pleased to see a #pinkbloc #FreePalestine protest during the #prideparade Another group of protesters aggressively booed this group. I then watched a cop with a gun get his 3' club out of the car. America doesn't have a monopoly on #policebrutality 2/2
Had a great day at #asa2024 so many excellent panels! I'm grateful to @CKdoeswork and the @fgwc_sociology community to have been a part of this panel about building communities of solidarity for FGWC students and scholars. Looking forward to seeing you all tomorrow

Everytime I hit a paywall on some respected journalism site and then simply don't read the article rather than subscrining, I think about how Fox, Breitbart, The Daily Mail, et al. never ever ever paywall their content. I think about this constantly.

Canceling the debt is obviously the headline, but this right here, if fully implemented, amounts to a fundamental change in how people will pay for higher education, effectively instituting a progressive graduates' tax. Maybe not my ideal solution, but pretty good!

So many recent PhDs have underwent what I would term an *extended* extended adolescence. They finish up their PhD often pushing 35 or 40 — with no kids, no spouse, no family. They’ve given up all their creative pursuits, dreams. And for what? A manuscript in a low-impact journal.

HI EXCUSE ME, I just found out the the prof for this online course I’m taking *died in 2019* and he’s technically still giving classes since he’s *literally my prof for this course* and I’m learning from lectures recorded before his passing ..........it’s a great class but WHAT
