This is the 1st useful kit post I've found on Road.cc. Some really good cycle tips here. Although do be careful on the website as @KarlOnSea notes here. @simonmacmichael

Locational pricing is vital so that future investment helps fix this situation rather than make it worse. Cheaper prices everywhere now, and an increasingly efficient system forever.

Scotland's largest wind farm (Seagreen) has wasted 60% of its output since June 2023, with bill payers paying over £100m in curtailment - enough lost energy to charge 70 million electric cars.

The UK electricity market is like the EEC’s Common Agricultural Policy, leading to UK consumers & businesses paying the highest bills in Europe, whilst we pay billions to wind farms to not generate. It’s pretty grotesque. We need locational pricing now.

The curtailment at Seagreen is even higher for 2024 so far – it's been off nearly 70% of the time 😬

Which is worse, minor mobile phone fraud before becoming an MP or channelling six-figure sums of public money into your girlfriend's tech start-ups while London mayor? You decide.

There are many versions of this image out there. The good ones illustrate why “better cars” will never be more than part of the answer, and actually help “lock in” the #CarDependency that’s the real problem. They also show why status-quo interests want to focus on the vehicles.

Will removing 3 bike lanes fix congestion in a 2,750 square mile metro with 7 million people?

Imagine a Premier of a Canadian province lying to his people, hoping they’re gullible enough to believe that a city filled with suburban car commuters fuelled by car-dependent suburban sprawl, and blaming people on bikes for elite athletes walking to a game. He hopes we’re dumb.

When Toronto traffic is so bad that NHL teams have to walk to their games, we’ve got a serious problem. That’s why it’s so important that we deliver on our plan to fight gridlock by bringing sanity back to bike lane decisions, building highways and public transit, and speeding…

I have never once, in my 45 years of living, been harassed in a bathroom by a trans female. However, I have been harassed by a man walking down the street minding my own business many, many, many, many times. Gender neutral bathrooms aren't the problem.

Has any new government in modern British history crashed this fast?

No matter what your policy is on the North Sea, it is running out of gas So unless we start to move away from gas boilers, we'll just have to import more gas from abroad Heat pumps will increasingly run off British renewables, shielding their owners from gas price spikes.

Want to ‘buy 🇬🇧 British’ energy for for heating? By 2030, w/ renewable roll outs, heat pumps will use: 📍 55% LESS imported energy than today 📍 1/6 the imported energy of a gas boiler 🧵

For every 1 case of a cyclist causing a death of a person, there are 10,000 cases of motorists causing deaths. So yes, I'm more interested in changing driver culture.

Bikebrain also sees people abuse traffic lights and cause danger. But you never whine about that? Only cars.

Sad story in The Times about 88 year old farmer, John Kemp-Welch, who works 5,000 acres of difficult hill farming land in Scotland. Fortunately, he somehow found time to be Chair of the London Stock Exchange, a stockbroker for 30 years and on the board of HSBC.

As ever on my visits to Paris since 2020 (first time in 6 years) I am just blown away by the increase in cycling here. (Left the Leica at the hotel today because it doesn't really agree with the rain, so you get this one off the cheapo phone instead, sorry) 🤣

When you remember that mobility in cities is largely about space, & when you see the striking math involved, you understand that EVERY person walking, biking & taking public transit is helping cities succeed, & helping EVERYONE move better. #Vancouver’s Math via @CityofVancouver
