Killing more innocent people to avenge the killing of innocent people is the stupidest thing humans do. And we do a lot of stupid things.

When the Venn diagram is made showing connections across content areas taught in most schools, it is the Arts where Maths, Science, Language Literacy, and Social Studies all overlap… the Arts are true “core” experiences from which meaning is made of the siloed “spokes”.

The many wonderful things that are considered ‘extra’ in our schools are often more fundamental to the development of young people than those things that are considered ‘core’. We need to educate the whole child, and that involves music and all of the performing arts.

Visual and performing arts grant us the chance to build critical thinking, project management, and literacy skills in truly meaningful ways — dance, art, and music aren’t just decoration or entertainment; they’re our common language

Music is NOT a waste of time. Music is NOT a waste of space. Music is NOT a waste of money. Music is NOT a waste of resources. Music IS the complete and utter opposite. Music IS the most holistic educative experience we can provide for young people. We need to provide it.

As someone who has taught reading intervention, I’m pretty quiet on the reading wars except to say that when you use the term “war” you will end up with casualties. You’ll dehumanize. You’ll create enemies in a way that prevents dialogue. Phonics matter. Blending matters.…

If she was strong enough to survive this — then white kids should be strong enough to learn about it in school. Agree? #BlackHistoryMonth

So many things students are asked to do in class seem so detached from their own needs. This demonstrates the heart of relationship building.

He forgot puppies, apple pie, and “Mom”.

Every word a lie.

Ron DeSantis just removed 4 democratically elected school board members from office. This is the work of an autocrat. I’m terrified.

The competition compulsion: It seems there's no activity so engaging - from singing to coding, from math to oratory - that it can't be ruined by gratuitously setting kids against one another so that each participant must try to defeat all the others
