CEO of Ryanair, Michael O’leary calls an increase in tax on aviation a “tax on the poor,” but conveniently fails to acknowledge … 1/3 heraldscotland.com/news/national/…
"More than sixty organisations from ten European countries are declaring 13 September the international day against night flights. With this broadly supported initiative, local residents are drawing attention to the night-time terror of air traffic."
schipholwatch.nl/2024/08/28/13-…
Friday 13th Sep 2024 - International Day Banning Night Flights ..and here’s a piece from Colin Gates, resident of Charlwood, Surrey beside Gatwick Airport base on Gray’s Elegy in a Churchyard ! Very apt !
We need to ban night flights. Today, 130 groups have come together to demand just this On the newly established International Day to #BanNightFlights - spread the word!
This decision puts the interests of a small number of wealthy frequent flyers over the wellbeing of us all. London City Airport operates low-efficiency planes, on routes doable by train, for high-income passengers.
Politics isn't working. It's time to call time on the broken culture in Westminster and have a fresh start with a fair voting system. Add your name to @electoralreform's call to #MakeSeatsMatchVotes action.electoral-reform.org.uk/page/3782/peti…
Ultrafine particles from planes have been linked to thousands of cases of respiratory problems, cardiovascular effects and pregnancy issues across Europe. What can the aviation industry do to solve this problem? 📺Watch the video to find out 👇
We also hear from campaigners who have been raising the alarm about air pollution from airports for years. They represent groups from areas around London Gatwick, Stansted, Heathrow and Manchester airports - all of the UK airports that the report focused on. 3/9
🔔 Beginning of the end for new UK fossil fuel extraction? A challenge led by @MadamPratolungo against #Surrey Council’s planning permission for oil drilling at #HorseHill not only quashed, but the Supreme Court ruling could impact major UK fossil fuel projects @WealdActionGr
Oh dear; Labour manifesto out today says: ‘Labour will secure the UK aviation industry’s long-term future, including through promoting sustainable aviation fuels, and encouraging airspace modernisation’. SAF will not save us; the same carbon comes out the back of the engine…
This highlights the massive inequality of aviation and climate change. Worth remembering though that to be among the 15% you only need to take 3 return flights per year. People who do that wouldn't see themselves as wealthy. Easy to point to 'them' but actually, it's us.
70% of flights are taken by just 15% of people – a tiny, wealthy group. To reduce air travel, without it becoming the preserve of the wealthy few, we need to tax excessive flying. A frequent flyer levy is the fairest way to tackle aviation emissions. neweconomics.org/2024/04/sharin…

How can government approve plans for a huge increase in flights when the air transport industry has no *proven* way of delivering net zero damage to the climate? Show me responsible decision making. itv.com/news/meridian/…
Cait Hewitt, AEF: "these fuels will be in limited supply and most of them will be produced using wastes. That doesn't even reduce CO2; it just takes carbon, like plastic bottles, that's laying in a rubbish dump and puts it back in the atmosphere."
Big day for the UK aviation and SAF sector as government confirms new SAF mandate and proposes revenue support mechanism. The move has been welcomed by the industry, but green groups remain deeply sceptical it can deliver. businessgreen.com/news/4201217/g…
🤩GOOD NEWS🤩 @LawforChangeUK who supports legal action for public good, has agreed to indemnify Jenny Dawes’ challenge to the development consent order for the reopening of #Manston Airport. This affords her protection for costs if she loses her appeal 🙏🏻 crowdjustice.com/case/support-j…
