You could say the Spotted Eagle Owl and Cape Sugarbirds showed well for the @OrioleBirding group on the Western Cape tour at Kirstenbosch Botanic Gardens today! Other highlights included Cape Canary, Cape Weaver, Cape Sparrow and SA's National Bird the Blue Crane. More to follow!
A cracking start to our @OrioleBirding Shetland trip. Lanceolated and Paddyfield Warblers on Unst this morning, then this showy Pallas’s Grasshopper Warbler this afternoon on Mainland. Time for a lie down and then a stiff drink! @jonathanfarooqi
Yellow-browed Warblers were the order of the day today on @NRonBirdObs with 8 being our personal total including two in the hand. Two Barred Warblers, our first Brambling & Redwing of autumn and Little Bunting being the other highlights. Blog update here: oriolebirding.com/birding-diary-…
Pleased that this Little Bunting that we found ‘ticking’ its way around the South-east of @NRonBirdObs this morning found its way into the Holland House nets just before lunch 👌🏻
The undoubted highlight today @NRonBirdObs was @maddyhine280 ‘s superb Red-breasted Fly up at the Beacon. We spent a good while watching it darting around on stone walls and piles of wire, making for some really fantastic views! More on the blog: oriolebirding.com/birding-diary-…
A nice post-lunch treat at @NRonBirdObs as the Barred Warbler was trapped and ringed by @tomgale89
The superb Brown Shrike trapped at Holland House was the undoubted highlight of our groups first full day at @NRonBirdObs today (after we spent several hours trying to see it in the field!). More pics on the blog here👇🏻 oriolebirding.com/birding-diary-…
Our @Scillypelagics weekend is off and running but the group got off to a flyer before they’ve even stepped onto the Sapphire. Cliff Swallow in the bag, great views of the Spotted Sandpiper (pic by Robert Todd) and then @PaulEele finds a White Stork circling over Porth Hellick!
Our Brazil tour has just spent two days in the Chapada dos Guimarães region looking for some cerrado specialities. As well as Pheasant Cuckoo, Chapada Flycatcher and Shrike-like Tanager, we were very lucky to get the whole group these views of Collared Crescentchest!
An exciting encounter with a Brazilian Tapir at Pouso Alegre in the Pantanal yesterday evening
Our final day on the Flotel provided a cross-section of wildlife highlights along the river banks including three more Jaguars, Anaconda, Giant Otters and Boat-billed Heron
More magnificent mammals on our tour to Brazil’s Pantanal with three different Jaguars seen on our first afternoon on the Cuiaba river including this young male. Jaw-dropping close views right by our Flotel! Check the tour out for next year here: oriolebirding.com/tour/brazil-pa…
Amazing views of Ocelot from the hide at SouthWild Pantanal yesterday evening - what a beautiful cat! The Pantanal may be famous for its Jaguars but we’ve also seen Puma, Giant Anteater, Southern Tamandua, Black Howler Monkey, Hooded Capuchin & Capybara on the mammals in 3 days!
Another superb day of wildlife watching in the Pantanal. After a Puma on yesterday evenings night drive we finished up at Piuval with another good birding safari before setting off further on down the Transpantaneira highway towards Porto Jofre
Over the last couple of days in Brazil’s northern Pantanal we have enjoyed some ridiculous views of Sunbitterns - with probably ten sightings across two days this has to be one of the best places to see them. This one was a particular poser!
A great start to our trip in Brazil’s Pantanal with some fantastic wildlife sightings already - our early morning ‘anteater safari’ paid dividends with close views of Giant Anteater plus Red-legged Seriemas at dawn and nesting Hyacinth Macaw. Black-banded Owl last night too!
Come and visit us this weekend @GlobalBirdfair in Nightingale Marquee, stand 18. We’re delighted to have @AlexPenn_1 ‘s fantastic Wood Warbler shot on the cover of this years flyer 👌🏻
A fortuitous return to @spurnbirdobs with @OrioleBirding group today. Ace views of a lingering male Red-backed Shrike on Beacon Lane with @wathingsmecca Late in the day what appeared to be a 2nd cyr male Montagu's Harrier sped over the triangle, pic captured by @BirdingHawkeye
Very easy to pick todays highlight for @OrioleBirding group in Finland, this stunning Ural Owl was keeping close watch over its young which remain in the nest box for now. For me personally, there really is something quite special about this species.
